Next month, my SO will be visiting me for a week.
Can somebody suggest where is the best place to take him for a vacation in Ph? somewhere that wouldn't consume a lot of travel time from MNL. I wanted to go to El Nido, but he said plane tickets are expensive. o_O

    Thanks. x

    Puerto Galera?
Bus to Batangas terminal and a fast craft across..
If he complains about the cost of those tickets take him down on the jeep to the Divisoria for a cultural experience.

Is that in Bohol? I've been wanting to visit Bohol! But I find plane tickets expensive and I want to surprise him with the vacation and pay for the accom and everything. I might do Puerto Gallera since I know the way to get there. and pretty cheap.

Yep enough attractions to keep you busy on Bohol if you're not always wanting just the beach.

Bohol is the place to go! Been going there since 2007, made a lot of friends both locals and expats. One of the best places to learn how to scuba dive as well. Let me know if you need referrals as I know a couple of folks who own dive shops. If you want to be around people then Alona Beach is perfect. I used to stay at Oopss Bar but unfortunately my friend who owns it passed away a couple of years back. So I would normally stay at Oasis Resort. It isn't as pricey and you get the best of both worlds - beachfront property and privacy. But if you want to stay in a really private and not so crowded resort then I would suggest Bohol Beach Club. It is a bit pricey but they offer packages to get your money's worth.

And I agree, tons of things to do in Bohol aside from lounging on the beach. Have fun!

Many years since I was in P.Galera. I believe it has become a lot more 'touristy' now. Girlie bars etc in Sabang... where the action is, will NOT be the best place to expose (pardon the expression) your partner to.

Why don't you suggest that he saves up for another month so he doesn't need to be so tight-fisted ! ? :D

Camotes has been my fave place so far. First went there in 2010 and loved the rural vistas. Went back 2016 and it thankfully hasn't changed dramatically. Foreigners are few and generally stick around mangodlong, it being the most expensive resort at around £60 a night. Cheaper digs available around Santiago bay which is also beautiful.

What about Baguio??? Cheap to get there and lots of good cheap pension houses up there..He might also prefer the climate.

that sounds good! can you refer me a resort and probably get a discount? lol
I really wanted to go to Bohol because according to my friends, it has various attractions I would enjoy especially my SO.

Ain't Boracay all beach? Both of us aren't beach persons so we are looking for more stuff to do for a hoiday.

Isn't Baguio environment like UK? I want to show him new things so I bet PG is a better option than Baguio.

He's been to Cebu already (though I haven't) so maybe better to take him somewhere else.

Yeah I think we need to save up for the upcoming visa & UK plane tickets expenses. We travelled in 2 countries in the last 6 months now I'm shy to suggest anything so I'm thinking I'll pay for this trip so should be cheap. :D

Funny how he's willing to go to Thailand with me for a holiday yet he thinks El Nido ticket is expensive.

Its nothing like the UK except they sell punnets of fresh strawberries there..
PG is OK but apart from the beach and the reef what else is there??

What about cheap day or weekend trips..
When I was younger I went on the Pagsanjan falls trip.. Never forgot it..

If Baguio is too far spend the day at Tagaytay and show him the view of Taal volcano and lake..Nicer climate for us Brits there even if its only for a day or two.

    What about camping in Zambales?

If you really would like to visit Bohol and get a discount,PM me... Its better if one of you can drive a hired motorbike as a cheap way to see the sights here..

And finally on my list today...
If you can get him to save up for plane tickets..(....Shakes head....)....Camiguin-island..
You can get there from Bohol in Jagna ...We went there 2 years ago..Enjoyed every minute...Hot and cold springs to swim in and lots of cheap little resorts to stay at...Even cheap pension houses if you are really feeling broke.

Try going to the north of the Philippines. Ilocos Norte and Sur are your best bets. If he is into architecture and structural arts then it is worth visiting these places. They have nice beaches as well. And good food too!

Not sure I can ask for a discount for you but will try at Oasis Resort. Anyway, it should be off peak season now because of the monsoon season so their rates should already be discounted. And this comes with a buffet breakfast! Bacon all you want woohoo!

I would suggest Banaue but this is not the best season to visit the place.

This information is probably of limited value because I just noticed that you don't want a beach holiday. However - I've left it in here anyways.

    ---------------------
Without leaving Luzon or consuming a lot of travel time, I would recommend trying the Aquatico in batangas. It's a few hours drive from Manila and it's a very pleasant, quiet, premium beach resort. I've stayed there and I would stay there again.

I stayed in one of the 'case de playa' rooms (which is a small house on the beachfront) which had a small garden and deck. The facilities, room and restaurant were all just fine. I can't comment about the other rooms but the whole resort is very clean and smart with a well looked after feel. The infinity pool was lovely. It's possible to rent boats and go snorkelling. The price and small size means that it's not crowded. I would recommend it.

Another advantage is that there are things to see en route from Manila. For instance the Taal basilica (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basilica_of_Saint_Martin_of_Tours) is en-route and if you hire a car/driver you can persuade him to stop off there.

Another beautiful place that I've been to, if you care to fly, is on Moalboal peninsula in Cebu. The name of the hotel is 'Blue orchid Beach Resort' and it's rated number one of the hotels in Moalboal. I find it very charming and quiet and I've stayed in the honeymoon suite both times I stayed which is a stand alone house with its own lounge and roof deck. Very peaceful. Nice service and they will come and pick you up from Cebu airport. The main attraction of this place is the snorkelling on the house reef is very very good. The atmosphere is wonderful. For a short break as a couple, I really can't recommend this place enough.

If you're staying in Manila before you depart, then I would also recommend the Manila Peninsula. That's also a very nice hotel. However - adding this edit - since I saw a remark about 'tight fisted' and 'cheap' - none of these places will suit if you're on a tight budget.

Told him I've been to PG twice so he said he wanted somewhere I have never been yet when I tell him about Bohol he would say plane tickets aren't cheap. I couldn't understand him! lol

Do you have a resort in Bohol or can you refer me an affordable one? A travel itinerary would be much appreciated. :)
