Just recently I have noticed a sharp increase in the number of Gateway Timeout and other 500-series error when trying to access British-Filipino. Response times from the server have also markedly worsened since the day you announced that the hosting company was to carry-out major infrastructure works.

Ever since the major outage in May and the move of this site to a different server, the bandwidth granted to us seems to have been cut back quite drastically.

I do not have similar problems accessing other web sites, just this one.

It's due to the database and not the actual web server. We are just maybe 3 months into this contract and we did talk about moving to one of their other hosted services but I'm not convinced it will be any more reliable. We are just as frustrated so please bear with us.

Why isn't the database hosted on the same server as the web site - cost?

I had hoped that the recent maintenance work by the hosting company would fix things, the site has been very slow recently.

No not to do with cost. A server should be assigned a dedicated role, be it NAS, Web or database.

Yep same here. It is quite frustrating and that frustration has just been vented

I agree with the logic, Paul, but really frustrated that, from responsiveness point of view, the database appears to be hosted on a Z80 machine running CP/M located in North Korea!

Excuse me. Some of us live in the jungle and are grateful merely to have a light bulb come on.
