Hello, My Fiance's birthday is getting near and I wanted to give him gifts from my money which is back home (ATM card is in my mum's possession).

Can Anybody recommend a remittance centre that offers good exchange and low charge?

    Umm.

I have received money from the Philippines in two ways - a Bank transfer, for a four figure amount in Sterling, and via Western Union for two much smaller amounts (sister in law repaying a loan). The latter I would not recommend. The exchange rate and fees were not attractive and the evidence of identity required was no small matter - driving licence did not cut it, they needed a Passport!

I don't know if World Remit will send money from the Philippines to a bank account in the UK but if they do then that is a service that I would recommend.

For a bank transfer, you will need to give the Philippines remitting bank the beneficiary's name and address, the name of their Bank and the address of the branch, their Bank account details - the name of the account, the number of the account and the Sort Code, and most important the IBAN and SWIFTBIC details of their account - the beneficiary can ask their branch for these. Allow three days. (No, I don't know why the Banks need three days... but we can both guess...;) )

    Hello,
I always use https://online.kabayanremit.com . Better rate than WU and lower charge and you will have 50% off (charge) on your first transaction.

I have no bank yet and can't transfer it to Fiance's bank or else he won't be surprised lol.. bank transfers seem a hassle as well so might as well try something else. Thanks Andrew!

@joi1991 i have linked my debit card to a newly created paypal account. This allowed me to purchase from almost all online stores (debenhams, marks and specers, tesco, and amazon). Got my fiance his christmas gift using this.

My BDO atm /debit card works for some online purchases without paypal. I have my mom screenshot the front and back of the card via fb then im good.

I would agree with @Maley. You can always try to link it with PayPal and purchase something from online. :)

You can easily create an account with paypal using your email. They will then ask for your debit/credit card details (so far its secure and my fiance has been using it for almost a decade now and no hiccups so far).

I think as long as you have a debit card, it should work since they are either master card/visa thing.

I'm with BPI and I have linked it. :)
FYI, they have BPI Europe that offers low fees for remittances back home. You might be interested on this when you are able to open a bank account here in the UK soon.;)
    Will message you on FB.

It's the other way round John, she wants to send money from her account in the Philippines to herself in the UK, Western Union would probably work but their fees are usually hideous.

I agree with others that linking a Philippine bank account to Paypal and purchasing online would be the best bet.

I have received money from Korea when Ana owed me cash and I held her to the loan, about 3 years ago now, she sent via Western Union the fee's she had to pa at here end were terrible about 20 quid, exchange rate was not so bad for her though. Over there WU services are integrated with the banks and follow banking hours. This transfer was a money in minutes one that I was able to pick up at a Cheque Centre shop in the UK

Having checked, Western Union do not appear to have an online mechanism for sending from the Philippines, it would have to be an in person transfer at a WU office but it can be a transfer to a bank account.

Regards PayPal, I have removed money (money that I put in the account in the first place) from Ana's Union Bank EON account to load it into her PayPal account and from there transferred the money back to my UK PayPal account, the fee's are a lot better than Western Union but are still quite high, it is so long ago now that I can't remember the actual exact costs but it is a viable way to transfer cash.

Hi guys, this has been settled although
I tried PayPal and linked my BPI bank. Tried it to purchase items on eBay but didn't work..

    Thanks for the suggestions!

Sadly PHP is not a selectable source currency, I doubt the service is available for sending from the Philippines yet.
