I just stumbled across these in my collection of over 40,000 shots :D

These are from 2005 which was the year I got properly back into photography buying a Canon 20D, sadly sold that lovely wee camera two years ago.

Just tweaked these shots again as these days I have Lightroom 3 which is vastly superior for development compared to anything I had in the past.

This was one of the views from where we lived for three years, overlooking Manila Bay, a long telephoto shot through something that looks like a Victorian railway station but was really the top end of a tower block construction, lovely odd piece of engineering for Manila!

Nice pics there. I remember taking a stroll along Baywalk when we stayed at the Bayview hotel while sorting out Elsa's visa back in early 2005.

Baywalk in those days was nice, Mayor Lito Atienza was quite relaxed and allowed businesses to set up on Baywalk including a restaurant owned by Manny Pacquiao, they all got shut down when my compadre or co-ninong for my friends wedding, Mayor Alfredo Lim, he decided to be a prude and accuse them of running dodgy institutionsm, (he closed them all Baywalk is a desert now :()

It was not true, there were many nice open air restaurants at the bay and some places invited bands to play at night, I never saw any prostitution or drug use or anything bad on Baywalk in those days but that's what Mayor Lim accused all of them of?

The reality was that the Chinese Filipinos had a huge investment in "Mall of Asia" and wanted ALL competition removed.

If you go to Mall of Asia all the same stuff is available at the bay, food, music and the view and sewage ;) and some kids entertainment. More expensive but not as cosy an atmosphere as Baywalk, essentially a clone but not a perfect clone :( For one the photo opportunities are nowhere near as good.

So much easier with digital Anthony :)

When I take pictures as snaps, the proportion of pics that I would keep are around about 30%, if I am taking pictures for serious work I would rate about 5% of them and then work on them to get a result that I would consider good, that would result in about 1% of the shots being worth a position in a gallery, so out of 40,000 I might have 400 good ones and maybe only 50 that I would consider commercially good.

Professional photographers run camera's into the ground, a modern camera at the (lower) amateur level is good for about 100,000 shots then the shutter will fail, of course the shutter can fail anytime, sometimes it will last much longer, but these are averages.

Some pro level cameras have shutter built to last up to 300,000 shots but they can also fail early or late.

Shooting a wedding a photographer will often shoot between 1000 and 5000 shots, these guys go through this kit quickly ;) :)

I'm just an amateur these days but thanks for the kind words :) :like:

Well you lean something everyday I didn't know that digital camera's had a life time on the shutter's, they don't tell you that when you buy one, and it's not mentioned in the owner's book...! when I moved from the 35mm to digital I wasn't sure about it so I ended up with a Fuji S700 I wanted to go for SLR but the cost at that time was a lot more, but I should have taken the old 35mm to Philippines as the new one stop working after a week, and it took us two days to find a repair shop in Makati City but he was only in shop on Wednesday, so three days in all without camera and as you know three days in beautiful Phil without one is a nightmare, I put it down has being too hot (weather) odd thing is, on the morning that we were going to take it in for repair it kick back in and worked...!.
Next time always take two, you never know. And you have giving me something to think about, ( every time I hit the button, am killing the shutter ) ya nice one Oss...!

If it has a shutter that is, DSLR's have shutters but compact camera's don't, they have electronic shutters in other words the image is just read from the sensor at a point in time.

Canon DSLR's at the bottom end of the range are rated for around 100,000 shots, it can cost several hundred pounds to have it replaced when it goes and it could go at 5000 shots equally it could pack in at 195,000 shots, it's just a failure average that they quote.

The pro camera's like the Canon 1D are rated for a much longer life.

If you have a DSLR you certainly don't want to be playing with the 6 frame per second motor drive :)
