Apologies Fred. I mistakenly thought I was replying to @ChoiAndJohn. The post is still a "winner" though, in my book.

    WAS!!
The positive Brexit vote may start your "the UK being the best country in the world" becoming true once again IF British politicians decide to stand up for the rights of Britain and British people during the exit negotiations..
Hopefully they utilize an army of talented accountants that we have to counter the horrendous and silly EU divorce settlement demands..
In the mean time,IMO we should simply just leave already.

My Russian-born daughter was just 10 when she arrived in 2000. She spoke no English, German being her second language which she spoke fluently. You should ideally visit your local schools NOW and take with you last year's transcripts (for the academic year that ended in March).

Don't be surprised or disheartened if the school decides to place him in a year group younger than his actual age. This is quite normal and no reflection on the child's ability but the school needs to place him in a year that corresponds to his current attainments. And do ask the school to provide English support. Depending on what school and where, he may have been taught almost entirely in Filipino. English-medium lessons feature in High School there whereas many Primary Schools conduct their lessons in Filipino. And that's why my older son attended an International School as there all lessons (except for Tagalog/Visayan) are taught in English.

She'll be doing A Levels, right? I suggest you "shop around" as a year of ESL to the exclusion of her A level subjects strikes me as being an overkill. My daughter went almost straight from her Primary School in St Petersburg to a Church Primary in west Wales. She was put in a class of 9 year olds, ie down a year group, and received ESL for two double-lessons a week whilst the other kids in her year did PE and sports. She only needed 2 terms of ESL as with her other lessons being taught in English she was pretty much fluent by the start of the Summer Term when they put her up a year as she was doing so well.

You may find a school or 6th Form college that's happy for her to do the ESL in tandem with her A levels.

It is quite apparent that the Admins approve of the idea - there's now a closed section for politics and such threads are now banned elsewhere. Hooray! I believe it would be best if all the existing threads were moved to the new closed section; this would prevent them being added-to as well as helping to promote Philippine inclusiveness.

There's now a place on this site where you can post to your heart's content in the certain knowledge that I will not reply to anything you say. It's called the Politics Closed Section but you'll need to apply to an Admin to join.

I'm guessing the admins becane convinced that he was indeed John Ash? I'm curious too.. @HaloHalo @walesrob any comment?

He was although neither John nor Ash are his real names. His writing style gives him away: he arrived a few weeks ago and jumped straight-in as though he'd been a member here for a long time. Which in truth he had.

I am mystified why he never does himself any favours.
If it was me wanting to rejoin after being banned, I would contact the admins and ask them this, telling them I had missed the banter and promise to heed warnings in the future.
He has a lot of good points to make but has to let go of previous perceived grievances.
Come on lastlid, JohnAsh, bowler and numerous other names, do a bit of growing up by not going off the deep end and be constructive.

Bowler was easy to spot. But he has at least one more as-yet-unbanned identity that joined the forum before Bowler.
