    Hi everybody
I’m Sean in London and a new member.
I’m considering marriage to an Asian lady, in particular a Filipino, but I am being put off by negative feedback. I’m sure you know the usual so I don’t want to bring that up. I am also put off by the apparent problem of actually inviting some from the Philippines over here for a visit and visa hassles.
Obviously I’ve met a few very nice looking women online but am reluctant to take things further until I know more.
Btw I am a mature man, own homes and a business in London. Originally Irish which means I have a sense of humour and am very friendly ( unlike the locals) I’ve been to the Philippines before, travelled Asia extensively for both research and leisure. I am recently divorced from my Chinese-Malaysian wife.
I speak English, German, French and some Italian and Spanish. Oh and a little Mandarin Chinese. I’ve just come back from a research tour of Bolivia where I met the president and the eldest daughter of Che Guevara.
Hope to hear from you all soon
    Sean

Hi Sean and welcome. If you want to marry her you really are going to have to overlook the negative comments/views of others, you're the one who is potentially entering into marriage, not them!

The lady in question, have you actually met her yet?

If you want to know more culturally then just ask though I'm sure you have been doing your own homework and you sound well traveled.

I seen a programme a few weeks ago on TV and Che Guevara's son was being interviewed, he apparently does motorcycle tours of Cuba.

Well I'm not going to 'overlook' the experiences of others, that would be rather silly wouldn't it.
Yes everybody is cashing in on the memory of a dead 'guerilla'.
I was considering inviting someone over for Christmas - for a few weeks - but the visa appears to be a major issue. Any input you may have on that matter would be useful.

I don't need an invite. I am spending the winter in the Far East anyway.
Yes, it appears a huge hassle - even just for a two-week visit over Christmas to do some Xmas shopping.

Yes that would be very silly wouldn’t it. Even more silly to not respond to what I’ve actually written. I didn’t suggest you ignore the experiences of others, I merely suggested the if you are ‘put off’ by negative comments then overlook them. Good day Sean.

But not a silly as not reading your own words before responding.
I did respond to what you have written: "you really are going to have to overlook the negative comments/views of others,"
'Overlook means', "don't take notice of' i.e. "ignore" -
At least in my language which is the Queen's English.
I'm also a former British Council IELTS examiner so take my word for it.
Now please take you agenda elsewhere and bother somebody else.
    Thank you.

    Welcome to the forum!

Have you met her in person? Thatsthe first thing that you need to do.

Second important point is to not generalize anybody. In the same way as not all brits (or europeans) are heartless or abusive or drunkard. There will always be a bad fruit in a tree.

So get to know the person first - not onnline but face to face then you get to see whether the generalization applies to her or not.

    Then you decide.
