I was informed today that you can still receive Windows 10 free.

By downloading the upgrade tool and taking advantage of the free upgrade, you’re asserting that you use assistive technologies. However, Microsoft isn’t checking if you have assistive technologies enabled before you’re allowed to upgrade. It’s more of an “honor system” kind of deal.

Yes. Been that way fit a long while. Win 10 and server 2016 are worth the upgrade if your hardware supports it.

Thanks. I'm fact I discovered this a few months ago and upgraded a couple of old laptops.

I still yearn for the simplicity & functionality of XP!

Should be a 'Windows Old' file in there somewhere.. which I believe has the backed up Win7 stuff on it.. not that I'm an expert, but I have reformatted and reinstalled once or twice.
Other than that, just copy all your documents and pics, plus favourite programme .exe files FIRST, to an external hard drive, another PC, Laptop, or pen drive, and add them back into your newly formatted C: drive (now with Win7 O/S... assuming you still have the disc and key).

I'm using windows 7 now - it's great - really smooth - nice size scroll bars etc!

I've got Windows 10 on my laptop but I have to be really careful about using it because of the automatic updating - very annoying - I installed something to prevent it which works well most of the time - but if they do a major "upgrade" or something different seems they can still override that

So I get it out (the laptop) once every 3 months or so and put some charge in the battery and let it update - it's become like a backup machine which will probably be redundant once I start using my new Android box a bit more.

Have a look at GWX control panel, you should be able to stop any unwanted win 10 upgrades to both you computers.
