If I am insulated from his concerns, as you put it, it is because I planned and executed it that way. Just sharing my own personal experience, which is what OTT was asking for. I have no idea of your personal circumstances, or why you chose to live in a dump. That is none of my business and not my place to comment.

    Ah Bago!

Have you tried Claude's Cafe de Ville which is on the second floor of the Oboza Heritage House, JP Rizal Street whose menu can best be described as "French Fusion" (ie delicious)? Or De Borderij , an ex-pat hangout on MacArthur Highway directly opposite S&R (and close to NCCC Mall) which serves Dutch and German food and is two doors down from Swiss Deli where you can buy locally produced "English" bacon (and very good it is too!).

Yes indeed, Claude's is a favourite of ours. Not tried De Borderij yet, but many times to Swiss Deli, good food at very reasonable prices.

Claude's soufflés are to die for - and even more so if you can persuade Claude to prepare it for you!

S&R quite often has a 5-for-4 offer on new tyres with free nitrogen fill and it's the only place where I've been able to find more than one new tyre for my car (Toyota Fortuner) that wasn't a cheap Chinese import; they stand by their warranty, too.

Thanks guys , some nice ,interesting and helpful replies . Also some new points and places to consider. I suppose many members settle in the area that their lady is from and her family live , although I'm sure that is not always the case . It also shows that people choose many different areas .

Yes.. some of us do actually LIKE our partner's family, do not treat them as some sort of vermin to be kept at arms length, and respect the fact that they are close-knit... and may be 'rude' enough to come knocking on the door occasionally... unlike in the unsociable, miserable UK.

I very much like Ana's family and many of them have stayed with us for extended periods of time over the years, it's only Ana herself that I have a problem with :)

No problem with my In-laws, just the idiotic drivers we have in Dumaguete and their lack of respect of safety, they really push my patience. How can you have a front head-lamp colored red and a rear one blue, only in the Philippines.
