I occasionally do a google search against my name in the news to see what comes up. Today, there is a story of a man who has to join the sex offenders register for 5 years and he shares my name. His age is different, so at least we don't share the same birth dates - it is safe to assume we don't share the same passport details either (assuming he has a passport). However, I am now wondering if this will cause me any problems when traveling abroad in the future? Am I likely to be inconvenienced due to the actions of this low-life? I am assuming that, as part of joining such a register, the person has to submit birth dates, photos, passport numbers and the like? I am also assuming that the UK shares this information with various other countries. Of course, we have all heard stories of people held up, with flights missed, because a name comes up on a database. I don't fancy going through that stress, and potential extra costs of booking a new flight. Am I worrying about nothing here?
I wouldn't worry too much. I hope this helps. https://www.nacro.org.uk/resettleme...g-abroad-while-on-the-sex-offenders-register/
Thank-you. My parents should have been more imaginative when they came up with my name.... I mean how many John Smiths are too many?
i had a weird coincidence on facebook last year. a search for my name found quite a few...one near Bristol had the same middle initial---the same birthday--23rd feb ( different year )---and his son--same name as my older son----Nathan.
Perhaps the most well known case of this would be when paedophile singer Ian Watkins, from the band The Lost Prophets, was found out a while back. Ian Watkins is also the name of 'H', from Steps, who was immediately bombarded with online abuse and death threats by the great, uneducated British public as a result.
There was a pediatrician in the U.K. who arrived home from work one day to find his home had been vandalized by the pitchfork brigade who got the wrong idea.
