I am not guilty of it... here or abroad, and to be fair, the problem is VASTLY greater in the Philippines. Maybe you don't walk there as much as I do ?

My partners biggest observation about the U.K. and Paris last week was and is how clean it is compared to back in the Philippines. How clean and how green...

Is it a bigger problem there or is it that we have more more money to clean up after our litterbugs? As I stated earlier our own local council spent 1.2 million on cleaning litter. I doubt an equivalent sized munisipyo would have anywhere near an equivalent relative budget.

Walk? No, it’s crazy to walk in that heat!

Yes , my partner said exactly the same thing , and repeated it several times during her month visit here . She couldn't believe how different it is here .

I particularly like the first, abstract photo, Jim.

The bottom photo looks familiar. I went to Subic once and there was a hotel or bar with a similar view.

That's the Suzuki in Barrio Barretto, Ana was pregnant with James and we had asked a contract driver to get us up to Subic but the guy had no idea how to get there and drove round the entire Bataan peninsular (not sure if that is the correct name) took about 6 hours, we could not find a resort or hotel that we liked and ended up here late at night, no idea where we were but the hotel looked nice and was an ok price.

We woke up in the morning and were hugely impressed with the view out to the bay, but we didn't realise that the town was quite as seedy as it was, there were really no nice ordinary restaurants or bars all of them were effectively girly bars, it was a bit of a surprise :D

The hotel was very nice though, I think owned and run by Japanese people but it was a long time ago so I can't be sure, we had a nice short break up there and returned to Manila a couple of days later.

The beach was volcanic but the scenery was stunning.

Still finding this hard to believe. Bit like the UK shutting down the Lake District

Full marks to the government on trying to do something but you would think unless every establishment is in violation of the rules why the need for such a blanket ban.

    Particularly when you read this

    http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/982367/cimatu-reports-marked-improvement-in-boracay-water-quality

Trace the bad uns and close them down until they comply. But it would seem (unless bookings are already way down) that something is already improving (and before anyone jumps in I said improving not sorted)

After this ban they need to put a cap on the number of tourists allowed at any one time. When the cap is reached then its one off one on.

Yes and there are issues with the Lake District right now as you probably know (Off road vehicles and bikes).

Better get it closed down then.

Jokes apart all problems can be solved. Not often do you see something as radical as this especially to a premier tourist destination.

Philippines tourist department will be having a hard sell with the premier resort is a cesspool tagline

It isnt really saleable in any language.

It's more sh... in the Philippines ;) lol.

Personally I never had a problem with the sanitation in Boracay, I do however have a problem with the numbers of people allowed on to an island that is only 4 miles long and half a mile to a mile wide.

It is very popular locally as well and lots of less well off Filipinos will travel there for a holiday by ferry rather than fly, even back in the day it could get very busy at certain times of year, but it looks like it is awful now in terms of being generally overcrowded.

I think a cap on numbers is a valid point. Who wants to go to paradise to be mythered by masses of people.

It was quite a while ago when I took that picture :D and as I mentioned earlier in the thread my friends there told me I had missed the really good times back in the early 90s :D

Indeed, these are all shots I took over various years but all are from at least a decade ago.
