Great photos oss , there are some beautiful sunsets on Boracay, I took some great pics of sunset over Willys Rock .

Regarding the number of tourists , when I first went in 2014 , it wasn't too crowded , but when I returned last year , it was Chinese New Year .

White beach was absolutely packed , and almost unrecognisable from my first visit .
I really like Boracay , but I'm not sure I will go there again .

Not sure I will ever return either, I think I would rather explore elsewhere in the archipelago.

Yep. That’s paradise right there. Ive never visited but thankfully the country is blessed with many beautiful islands that arent as popular.

That's another great photo, with the sun so clearly defined . My I phone didn't quite get the same effect haha .

Nice to see a "professional" quality photo, thanks for sharing .

    Thanks :)

It is extremely difficult taking pictures directly into the sun particularly with a telephoto lens and it is of course dangerous, never take a shot straight into the sun with an SLR camera if you value your eyesight :)

At the time I had a second hand Canon 75-300 zoom (I think it was that range at the short end) that I had bought in Quiggs in Glasgow for about 260 quid, it was a very good but not a truly great lens however you could get some smashing shots with it, on the Canon 20D camera I had at the time it gave me approximately a 500mm telephoto which is huge, that is the only way you can get the Sun's disk this large in a picture.

I always liked this one which I took with that lens. (this is Boracay as well)

I was there in 2011. I had two short visits there. I enjoyed it. I did feel it was a bit overcrowded but that wasn’t what pithed me off. What spoilt it was the number of street vendors, where no matter where you looked there was a face smiling at you wanting to sell you something or other. Quite frankly it was OTT, if you will pardon the use of the term.

Just by getting rid of the majority of them would undoubtedly reduce the head count on the island. LOL.

It has to be said that is true, I experienced mostly beach vendors trying to sell me a Rolex for 500 peso :D but it was a pain in the backside, the frequency was not that bad but it was annoying.

Yeah, didn't have a tripod with me, very early trip to the Phils, EXIF below , I foolishly had forgotten to change the ISO setting from earlier shots and was working at f10 when I could probably have been at f5.6 and ISO 200.

The shutter speed was at the normal 2 times the focal length for a telephoto shot of that length, remember it is effectively 480mm, in theory you should be able to get away with 1/500th but that equation does not really work when you are at that sort of focal length and 1/1000th was more appropriate.

These shots are on Flickr, I would have to go back to Lightroom and try to see what I did to these and in this case that is further back than Lightroom :) I think I processed this one in Paint Shop Pro 8 :D

I was travelling in Visayas with two Swiss girls (fellow scuba divers) in 2008, just before I met my wife. They had just come from Boracay and told me the place got on their nerves because of this. They said they would never go back.

Phuket in Thailand went like this. I used to hire a moped so the vendors could not hassle me.

The last people I want to meet on holiday are Western tourists... especially the sort who give me and the Mrs. dirty looks. :erm:

You can keep your Boracays and your Phukets, etc.

Yes that can be annoying at times , but doesn't seem to happen as often as I expected .

Maybe people just assume she's my carer haha .
