A company director who repeatedly gave speed cameras the finger from his white Range Rover has been jailed for perverting the course of justice.

Timothy Hill, 67, fitted a laser jammer to his car so thought nobody would realise whose car it was.
However, this turned out to be a mistake.
He was caught after driving past mobile speed camera vans on the A19 near Easingwold, Thirsk and Crathorne three times in December – gesturing to the camera with his middle finger each time.

When he found out that police were investigating the rude gestures made from the distinctive vehicle with personalised number plates, he threw the device into a river behind his home in Grassington, North Yorkshire. But police tracked him down after examining the photographs.
Hill has now been jailed (Picture: PA) He eventually admitted it was his Range Rover when he was questioned by police.
His speeds could not be determined so he was charged with perverting the course of justice, which he admitted on Monday.

Alfie Evans petition gathers nearly 75,000 signatures for the Queen to intervene ..
Hill was jailed for eight months and banned from driving for a year for perverting the course of justice.
‘If you want to attract our attention, repeatedly gesturing at police camera vans with your middle finger while you’re driving a distinctive car fitted with a laser jammer is an excellent way to do it,’ Traffic Constable Andrew Forth said after the court case.

‘It’s also an excellent way to end up in prison. ‘As Hill’s case shows, perverting the course of justice is a very serious charge which carries a custodial sentence.’

The headline is what is is, a headline, not relating to the act for which he was charged. He was jailed not for giving the finger but for throwing away the laser jammer.

Yes, I can see how this was a sensible use of public money and police resources.

In the meantime, don't hold your breath waiting for them to investigate the burglary at your house, or the child who is being battered and abused behind a closed door.

I don't drive anymore . One less thing to become paranoid about , or to be some jobsworth's low-hanging fruit.

Not repressive or dictatorial at all.

The gentleman is a grade one dimbo, and at his age, he should have known better.

I guess in prison he will have to watch out for various digits, especially in the shower.

I think George Orwell said something like this would happen pre 1984.

    What an absolute plonker.!

I remember considering the purchase of one of those devices, while in Tenerife, about 15 years ago. They were the rage at the time, and as cheap as chips, but decided against doing it.

I tend to drive in a calm manner and kind of respect the speed limits, unless I am driving in Germany, where limits don't really apply....

I do, however, get wound up, when I see Speed Vans, as I consider them being only used to collect revenue by targeting drivers.

Fury as new figures reveal almost half of paedophiles convicted of grooming children for sex online are let off jail by 'lenient' judges
    • EXCLUSIVE: 56 per cent dodged jail in 2016 compared to 33 per cent year before
    • The others were handed suspended sentences by judges in England and Wales
    • Include man found with 1,673 indecent images after trying to meet 'girl' for sex
    • Paedophile hunting group Dark Justice insisted all groomers should go to prison

Nearly half of paedophiles found guilty of grooming a child online before trying to meet them for sex are let off jail by 'lenient' judges, new figures show.

Criminals who have been spared time behind bars include a 56-year-old man who attempted to meet who he thought was a 15-year-old girl for sex before being arrested by police, who then found 1,673 indecent images of children at his home.

He was among 56% of those convicted under the charge of attempting to meet a child following grooming to dodge prison in 2016, compared to 33% in 2015 and 57% in 2014.

Over the three years, 88 paedophiles – 49 per cent - were spared an immediate jail term, versus 91 who went straight behind bars, according to a Freedom of Information request by MailOnline.

Dark Justice, a two-man operation based in Newcastle that has caught dozens of paedophiles by posing as children online, insisted ‘every’ child groomer should go to jail.

‘These lenient sentences are simply not a deterrent - when paedophiles see that there is just a 50-50 chance of going to prison after being caught they think it is worth taking the risk,’ the group told MailOnline.

‘These sick people found guilty of grooming intended to rape their child victim, and were more than happy to destroy their lives. They need to be rehabilitated, and the best place to do that is behind bars.

'People who commit benefit fraud or deal cannabis get years in prison but if someone wants to rape a child they tell the judge they’re a good guy and have had a hard life so get let off.’

“Traffic Constable Andrew Forth, who led the investigation for North Yorkshire Police, said: “If you want to attract our attention, repeatedly gesturing at police camera vans with your middle finger while you’re driving a distinctive car fitted with a laser jammer is an excellent way to do it.

“It’s also an excellent way to end up in prison. As Hill’s case shows, perverting the course of justice is a very serious charge which carries a custodial sentence”

Mr Hill only had himself to blame really.

Incidentally. My partner took and passed her U.K. driving test 20 months ago. She drives to and from work each day. One of the aspects of U.K. life she likes are the rules of the road and the standards we seek to drive by and the organisation on the road here compared to back home in the Philippines.

It seems this has happened recently in France too.

“A French driver is facing up to four months in prison for sticking his middle finger up at a speed camera.

TheLocal.fr reports the 46-year-old, who accepted he was speeding in the Loire department of central France in May 2015, denies giving the one-finger salute, known as the doigt d’honneur in French (finger of honour), to two speed cameras at Saint-Forgeux-Lespinasse and Bessay-sur-Allier.”

And another example from North Yorkshire Police:
