    @Callen,

Hi sad to hear about what happened to you and your girlfriend (if her story was true)

I am from the same place Antipolo.

Please send me a private message, tell me her complete name and address, I will try my best to help you in my own little way, and thats to know the truth.

I live nearby the Antipolo Police Station about 300m away. And nearby to most of the hospitals as well.

    Which hospital she was admitted?

Its a reality you have accept for any marriage/relationship. My parents still argue about how much help to extend to their own siblings. Im not sure of the situation here in the uk - i think because health care is free here, not a lot of argument is caused by money due to illness. But in the philippines, when health care is a big burden, someone has to shell out money.

If she was robbed , I'm pretty certain it wouldn't be a spur of the moment thing . Not many young pinays would be worth robbing in normal circumstances , certainly by two different moped teams .

If indeed it did happen , it would be because they had seen her withdraw big money .

This is very nice of you @Joyce B. Same here, I'm originally from Antipolo city (Woodberry Heights)

@Callen I'm sorry to hear about what recently transpired. Such unfortunate events. If you could also send me some relevant information about her whereabouts in Antipolo... that particular hospital or even the police station, I'd be willing to help...

I'm actually flying home next week, will spend a month-long summer holiday over there...

Should you need any assistance to further clarify or confirm some important details, please feel free to send me a private message. :like:

If you're already comfortable to share the details with people on Facebook, I would certainly make use of either of the 2 ladies here who have offered to help in Antipolo. I don't wish misfortune on anyone (except Boris Johnson) so would be happy to be proved wrong and your girl shown to be an innocent victim in all of this.

Is there a reason why you have invested so much emotionally in this "relationship" but not visited the Philippines yourself, but instead undertaken a very uncertain chance on her own visa application?

In the Philippines people appear pious, but they go to church for appearance, so that they can be seen as good people. I have a total mistrust of Catholicism, and have had experience of it in a relationships with Filipinas.

:D that is a cynical viewpoint, but there is some truth in it.

I was brought up Catholic in Scotland, I understand them and I know false piety when I see it, Sunday Catholics and the likes.

People turn up at church regularly, churches in the Phils overflow, people that are so poor they can't really afford the transport still turn up at church, ok they get there in Jeepneys and there are churches everywhere, if they can't get there on Sunday they will be there on Wednesday, on a Wednesday you will see the church with many people kneeling and praying outside mass times, there is deep religious fear in people, life for many is awful and the promise of something better when they die is motivational.

There is also a huge culture of fatalism, if something bad happened god willed it, which is hand in hand with huge submission to god's will, but god gets a lot of credit for anything good that happens too.

It is hard to watch from a western secular viewpoint, they should have free will but so many Catholics don't seem to understand free will.

I respect their beliefs and I would say the vast majority are not Sunday Catholics and do have much deeper faith, but they don't always act on it and that is what the Catholic confessional is for, it is the get out clause that excuses you for doing what you want, five 'Hail Mary's' and ten 'Our Fathers' and everything is ok again, you can play Russian Roulette with the next bus (running you over) as long as you got to confession each week.

There was an earlier comment, by the thread owner I think, which mentioned 'stealing', when people live in a country as poor as the Philippines the morality of stealing is not as clear cut as it is in the west, necessity can drive people to rationalise 'stealing' and I can't honestly blame them for that.

By the way last time I went to confession was 47 years ago.

Baclaran, I have better shots with people overflowing into the surrounding grounds but this is all I can find at the moment.

If it`s true and they snatched her bag ,the likelihood of them already knowing that it was stashed with cash is very good.
Usually, they lay in wait whilst their accomplice is inside the bank queuing and observing transactions with a cell phone.

I had to sit in a bank a couple of years ago to pay the rent for a weekend villa we were going to, god it took an hour and a half to get served and there were only about 30 people waiting, I was just glad I was walking in with money and not walking out.

When we were building our last project, the Mrs sent me to the bank about twice a month to withdraw cash for materials.. Quite often the amount was 450/500 K ish ..
The bank itself is pretty quiet usually and the staff all know me but what always annoyed me was that security did not enforce a no cell phone policy.. When I get the call that my cash is ready.."Sir Boots"..I go to the counter where the whole bank can see and hear the notes being counted by the money counting machine.. I put it all in a mall shopping bag and feel like I have just had a big target painted on my back.
I`m watching for texters inside and outside the bank constantly.. Ive never had a problem but it`s something I am very aware of..
It`s a good thing that I was born with eyes in the back of my head!

'She is different from a lot of girls'.

If I had a pound for every time I've read that on various Phils-related forums over the past 20 years.

Although I appreciate all replies but I am sorry this type of generalisation doesn't help much at all. It suggests everyone is the same...on the make etc where in reality everyone is different. If you have 100 Asian girls and 15-20 openly scam it leads to the concensus from exchange stories that every one of them is suspicious. It's simply not the case in the. Real world. I have reviewed all the facts in my scenario and they don't add up...they neither point to complete guilt or complete innocence. You judge people by their reactions before and after an event. In my case she hasn't reacted in a guilty way. There aren't strong pointers.. in the same vein it's very difficult to prove total innocence also. I am struggling to get accurate information from the police and hospital which would prove events beyond reasonable doubt. A lady on here has offered to help. She lives in the vicinity. This would be great...the help I need. But she has been quiet the past few days after her offer? I am hoping she contacts me again soon

Why should your Filipina chatmate think YOU are different, perhaps she thinks all foreigners are the same, too much money and no common sense.

Of course it's stressful for you Callen , everyone understands that . You asked for help and opinions , and that's what you have received , even if you don't like or believe what you have been told .

For me , without doubt , your best bet is to take the two ladies on here , up on their offer , who can make local enquiries , and probably find out far more than you can from so far away .

I hope they can find out exactly what happened , and help you get on with your life again .
Bear in mind though , you might not like what they tell you also , although best case scenario for you is to find out that the event actually did happen ,as you were told by your girl .

Believe it or not , everyone here would be happy for you , should that happen .

Yes I am hoping that will be the outcome. As I said above one lady has offered to visit said places. But hasn't been back to me for a few days. I wait in hope for news good or bad. The cynical responses don't help at all.

Can I suggest something that appears to have been overlooked, and might give you a better clue as to the truthfulness of her story.

She might have done as she says and gone to the bank and withdrawn the money and was robbed, and then went to the hospital and then the police station and has told you the truth all along. She might have continually played the part of a girl with a rich foreign boyfriend and spent the money or given it away as soon as you sent it. She might have built up a huge amount as you've detailed, but paid someone else's bills on occasion.

In that case, she might have pretended to have been robbed in order to 'save face', and then gone to the hospital and police station to make it look good. But liars often are caught out on the small things. The truth is in the detail.

The story is so dramatic that it's easy to forget the simple stuff.....

Have you seen her banking records? The ones which confirm that the money was in the account, and that could confirm the date of its withdrawal? Because if she can't supply them, or refuses to show them to you, it would be a deal breaker for me. If she can show that she withdrew a huge amount on the day in question, I think you need to accept her word.

I think that some people go to church for those reasons, CatchFriday, but I would imagine that most go for the "right" reasons in their faith.
I am an atheist so I would prefer it if all religions recede into the backwaters.
My wife and I never talk about religion as we are too busy with raising the kids.
We have never argued about it and I always told her I would take her to church if she wanted to go, as long as she didn't expect me to go inside.

I did go into the Santo Nino church in Cebu with her once, but I went to admire the beauty of such an old building.
