Marco Silva is new Everton boss

    Probably correct.

Everton in a difficult spot. It is incredibly difficult for them to infiltrate the top 6 unless Chelski, Tottingham or the Gooners self implode (both Manchesters and Liverpool seem unlikely to do this at the moment). The days when Moyes could take them to the Champions League are gone now that so much money has been invested in the top 6.

The chance of them (or anyone) doing a Leicester is remote. Therefore they are playing for 7th, along with a handful of other teams. Getting 8th in these circumstances isn't a disaster.

Time for them to wave goodbye to Baines, Jagielka, Schneiderlen, Ashley Williams and others . The Iranian chap needs to spend big time and they also need to play the long game like the Totts with their young talent. Fingers crossed that Lookman, Davies and Calvert-Lewin come good.

I fear the lack of instant success will mean another manager change in less than a year. They just have to face reality that they are only playing to win the league within a league.

How not to rebuild a club by Silva......wants Rooney to stay! Talk about going backwards if Pickford goes Silva could bring back Big Nev

You make good points and you may be correct but I think that if the Brands/Silva partnership gels, things could change over the next three years. As long as there is progress on various points, Fahad will be patient. The academy is vital though and the board will be monitoring this very carefully.
The new stadium will start being built in the not too distant future and this will also be a strong catalyst for the upturn in the Toffees fortune.

“Looks negative so I didn’t look at this..”

Yes. I will remove it. It’s a bit naughty. I didn’t realise Neville Southall had gone that way, btw.

Talk is cheap, they just need to do the business on the pitch, the way people of my age remember.

I think most people in football know the pros and cons about SA.
He was only brought in to get us over the Koeman blip.
Far too negative for the long term.

(I never forgave Koeman for his part in putting England out of the World Cup. Do I not like him. :D )

But then for Everton, Koeman was a great idea at the point of hire. And then...

Most people in football know Sam’s limitations though the English FA took him on :D

Where did Everton finish under Big Sam? 8th? As Pork Adobo implies, it is difficult to see them doing better than that next season unless one of the top 6 implodes. Also Everton will face stiff competition from the Happy Hammers under their new manager (assuming he survives the mugging he took recently).

Kenwright and Moyes were to cosy at the club for to long! Now they are a long way behind

Not a backwards move at all.
Rooney wasn't used correctly by SA and that was obvious by WR's face at times.
He should have been used solely as a midfield player, like Pirlo, as his legs have gone.
He will probably be a coach at EFC also as his motivation and effect on the team is valuable.

Everton have had to sell players as there wasn't a money man at the club in the Moyes era. The banks dictated what the club could and could not do, so EFC were treading water - but this should change now.
It was such a shock to most Evertonians that nobody was brought in to replace Lukaku when it was known for a year that he was going.
Koeman/Walsh failed as a team, if indeed they were a "team".

I met Big Nev in Chester Sainsbury's car park once.
He is a very straight talker and doesn't suffer fools gladly.
    Thankfully our thoughts were similar!

Best goalie I ever saw and, by the way, the biggest joker at the club back then.
One of my heroes - someone who wouldn't accept anything less than 100%.
Most modern footballers could learn a lot from him as they are mostly driven by their pay-packets.
He was so outspoken and this probably stopped him from a cushy back room job at Everton, if indeed he would have even considered a job like that.

I remember him as a good goalkeeper.

Not strictly on thread but Everton related. I never did get to see a game involving Everton. Except back in 1979 where I saw them play the Libyan national team in Tripoli Libya. Apparently Gaddafi was at the game. It was all a bit surreal.

I had to Google it to refresh my memory. Bob Latchford was playing.

So the big signings have been made.

Richarlison for a cool £50 million. Not bad business from Watford's perspective for a guy who did well for half a dozen games then literally fell off a cliff.

Following this young Brazilian chap is Digne. A French defender who didn't make the grade at Barcelona. Sounds reminiscent of another Deulofeu.

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like they are preparing to crack anything other than winning the league within a league (finish 7th).

Fingers crossed for the Blues that implosions at MUFC, Chelski and the Gooners give them a sniff of something greater.

If Everton finish seventh, I think that will be viewed as being successful for the time being while the rebuilding process carries on.
Moshiri's project is back on track after the Koeman/Walsh debacle.
A few years before Everton can challenge for anything.

Finishing seventh would be a great achievement this season .

I wonder if Lookman will get more chances this season ,as they didn't grant him his wish for a move back to Germany .

    Hi OTT,
It seems strange that Lookman hasn't played more full games in the Premier League games because it seems that he is a crowd favourite and often injects a lot of excitement into a game when he comes on as a sub.
Another mystery at Everton is why Tom Davies hasn't progressed from his breakthrough.

I don't remember if I have asked you previously, and if I have I apologise, but what team do you support?
