No No its not a naughty thread!

My wife and I were sat under Heathrow flight path on the M25 with planes taking off above us.

It got me thinking again about when she left Manila for the UK how she felt at the very moment the plane was on on the runway and the pilot burst to life the engine. Up to that point she had things to do,family with her etc but now she was all set for the new life. We went through the mixed emotions the belief and everything else,on my part I think it is very brave of the girls that come all that way to start a new life.
Anyone else had a similar discussion?

It's a long time ago... with the first Mrs. I do remember us laughing when we opened the little package that the nice Emirates stewardess gave her though. It was a 'Child's Activity Set'. :) At the time she was 23 years old, and a mother of two. :D

Youve told the tale before and it still amuses me!
Perhaps it would of been polite of me to include your good self as you sat waiting to fly over to the start of your new life!

Honestly it was scary at first. But at the same time it was exciting. Though I've been living and working abroad for almost 8 years now, it was different settling in a foreign country coz of marriage. I thought, "Hmm, you were able to live and work in 5 different countries and started life alone. Settling in the UK, won't be that hard. You have your other half who will support you to start again. It will be ok." When I was in DXB airport waiting for my flight, I thanked UAE for taking care of me. And from that moment, I looked forward to my new life here in the UK.

The Mrs was nervous but excited, was so many 1sts for her, first time going abroad, first time to do long haul, first time connection flight.
Using a decent carrier made her flight easier but getting to the flight in Manila even having the CFO made her nervous because of all the questions she was asked in the airport. She had already spent the night in a hotel alone so she was very full of emotions.
Arriving here was a mix of relief and excitment but she suffered badly with jet lag for about a week before she eventually started to sleep during the night.
