Too far for us. An outlet opened in Milan in March which is do-able in half a day from here. Oh and no visa required (to visit Italy). For those who miss their yumburgers and "unique" spaghetti sauce, the London outlet is at 180-182 Earls Court Road, London SW5 9QG and opens in October.
Oh wonderful. I wonder how Brit punters will take to ice cream on top of their over sweetened spaghetti? Do you think it will catch on?
I think it will have limited appeal - to Filipinos only - and will create entirely the wrong impression of Filipino cuisine for everyone else. It will have to maintain the same price differences with MacDonalds UK as it does with MacDonalds in the Philippines if it is to have any future. But at the cheap (and rather dangerous), bedsit end of the Earls Court Road, it's in entirely the wrong location.
I can only say Lutong Pinoy was almost full so can only guess there are enough Pinoys and OFW’s in and around the area
If I were the franchisee, I would've gone north up the A3220 for a couple of miles to Shepherds Bush and tried for a unit in Westfield Shopping Centre; greater footfall. There is certainly a Filipino community in Earls Court but its quite small.
I think you're probably right. If Jollibee was looking to locate store number UK235 then the grotty end of the Earls Court Road might have some merit - rent will be cheaper than at the other end at least - but for the first, flagship store in the country?
KFC in Thailand has a localised menu, with Thai spiced variations and spicy rice bowls. KFC Thailand Perhaps Jollibee (UK) will have Jolli Tikka Spaghetti and ChickenTandooriJoy on the menu to cater for local tastes.
If you Google Street view some of Jollibee's US locations, they really are in the butthole of nowhere. If they do take the plunge in London, then I can see the reasoning (for the franchisee) in taking a low cost location. Unless it had the full financial backing of Manila, it could be a costly mistake splashing out on a prime time position. Build it, and they will come. If that motto rings true, maybe then look at a more prestigious location. However, Jollibee will only ever be niche player outside the Philippines. It's chicken is possibly equal to KFC, but the burgers and hotdogs are awful.
It's strange it is in the location of a Wagamama restaurant that presumably closed this year with a Kung fu Oriental Buffet that looks quite appealing next door to the right : https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@51.4...4!1stOQAmmbWl0j4lWaBxqR3xw!2e0!7i16384!8i8192 There's a curry shop across the road and a whole host of other restaurants in the general area, nothing like taking on the competition There's a Filipino-Thai restaurant right next to that Lutong Pinoy one that you mention : https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@51.4...4!1s1qm7jHvwDJAUdXbTcLzIGg!2e0!7i16384!8i8192 Which sounds like a strange combination
It is a Filipino restaurant, that offers Thai food to attract customers. Looking at the menu they only sell three Thai dishes, rather disappointing for fans of Thai food.
Yes that's what I would have thought, I didn't check the menu. What I meant is that it's just from my personal experience that there is little connection between Thai and Filipino food at least regards the dishes I've tasted. There are certainly plenty of Thai restaurants in Manila now, probably similar in number to the Indian restaurants but far fewer than the number of Chinese or Korean places and none of our extended family have ever made a point of going to a Thai restaurant, Ana liked some of it but she hated anything that was even vaguely curry. There are Mongolian restaurants in Manila and we both very much liked what they served, it was very much a build your own meal from the bits on offer and there were a lot of bits, she liked that but the one we used to go to in MoA shut down. There was another Mongolian in Salcedo village in the PBCom Tower complex quite close to the Antel tower where my pals worked.
Well I don`t go in them here so I definitely aint going in them there. If they dont take sweet spaghetti and sugar sponge cake off the menu and pray that Filipino`s in the UK have not yet discovered what proper nosh is yet, they might do OK.
I have just picked some huge Ladies Fingers (Okra), some local variety of runner beans, and the first crop of those tiny hot chillies, all from our garden. They will go into the curry I'll be cooking up for my evening meal.
