Finally, we have managed to get a settlement visa for my stepson..

My wife obtained her back in February 2018, but her son was refused..

It all hinged on providing enough evidence of Sole Responsibility... which is the only area we failed to supply enough of previously...

Also I've just noticed that for us to pick up his BRP, he has to be with a 'Responsible Adult' which is :-
Your parent or legal guardian can be your Responsible Adult without prior approval from the Home Office only if:
 they are collecting their own BRP at the same time as you, and
 the vignette in your passport states that you are their dependent (this will be shown by a printed remark such as “Dependant of John Smith”).

ours Does say D-CHILD APP FM (STANDARD) <wifes name>

but not clear if this means Dependant of my wife..

In all other cases the adult who will accompany you, must be approved in advance by the Home Office, even if they are your parent or legal guardian.
To register the Responsible Adult please use the service at Collect BRP. You will need to provide information about yourself and about your Responsible Adult.
It will take at least a week to process a request to approve a Responsible Adult, and we cannot speed it up because that person is about to leave the UK, so apply as early as you can.

So I've registered just incase as we only have 2 day to pick it up after we land..

Congratulations.... from one who has brought in two 'dependent' Filipino stepchildren, both of whom are doing really well in their lives in the UK now. :like:

    Congratulations

Don't you have 10 days to collect BRP after landing as it is later of vignette expiry date or 10 days of arriving in UK ? Useful to know if I'm missing something or if you have a few more additional days than you thought as was a bit surprised when you said had to collect within 2 days of landing.

If you applied from outside the UK
Collect your BRP once you’re in the UK.

You must do this before the vignette sticker in your travel document expires or within 10 days of arriving in the UK, whichever is later.

You have 30 days on your vignette therefore if you travel within say 2 days from the valid from date then you have 10 days if you choose to travel say on the 24 day you would only have 6 days prior to the vignette expiring the expiry date being the later.
The key word is the later.
