Same as my son, also living in the UK.

Married at 21 ... divorced at 24. Tread carefully. 20 is very very young. ;)

I would weigh up the costs of multiple 6 month visas versus longer term visas. How much time will she be here.

A 2 year visa costs almost double the cost of 2 six month visas. Go figure that out!

Isn't that about right? If I'm reading you correctly, 2 six months visas is 12 months, 2 years is 24 months, ie double the period, so it seems right that it costs twice as much.

Nothing wrong with your maths, David, but a 2 year visa will only give 2 x 6 months' stay in the UK - it could be a bit less as visa holders are not allowed to consider the UK as their second home.

will it? you could do 4xs5 months or 3 xs 6 months, clearly on granting your visa they will look at your need for frequency of visits to ensure you are not just trying to live in the UK,but in the rules there is nothing laid down as to the number of visits only the maximum duration.

My point is whether your wife will be here enough to make use of the 2 year visa? Or whether two or even three six month ones would suffice. over the same 2 years. with 6 month visas, you can also buy them when you need them, you are not forced to make the most of the 2 year period. Its worth considering.

Yes , I looked at that also bigmac . It is more expensive to do it on 2 year visas .
If I remember rightly, the 10 year visa was better value , but I wonder how difficult it would be to get the longer term visas instead if the usual 6 month ones..

It’s a lot more money to lose if it’s refused . The main advantage of it , is obviously not needing to keep applying each year , and the associated costs of travelling to and from the visa centre , with its possible hotel costs if far from home .

The costs are relevant based on the number of visits you wish or need to make in the associated periods for instance
4 visits of 5 months on a six month visa would cost in application fees 4*£93= 372
4 visits of 5 months on a 2 year visa would cost in application fees £350
a marginal saving plus less paperwork plus less risk of refusal after you have the 2 year as against applying 4 times!
I guess the value is based on the frequency of your want or need to travel

Sorry , Have I got this wrong then . On the 2 year visa , you can only make 2 x 5 month visits ( one each year ) ?

as i understand it--you can make multiple visits--each one no more than 6 months.

in my wifes brothers case..he flies over to aberdeen from saudi a few times a year to visit his lady for a week or so.

but then a 6 month visa is valid for 6 months--allowing up to 6 months stay all tpld--and is multi entry.

i read somewhere UKVI is on the lookout for visitors using the UK as their second home for long periods in the year.

Ah , so on a 2 year visit you can make more entries throughout each year , as apposed to in a six month period , as long as the total time spent here is less than 6 months each year.

Nearly the most you can spend is six months on a visit bit you could do say 3 weeks then 4 months then 3 weeks then 5 months then 2 months all on a 2 year visit visa

Yes I am sure that they do watch for second home users and as I said in a previous post the applicant needs to convince the need for a 2 year visit visa. That said there are about a dozen previous styles of visit visas now come under the general heading of visit visa and it maybe that in these areas there is a desire and need for flexibility rather than the general run of the mill family visits

Thanks for the replies guys . Has anyone on the forum applied for , and been granted a longer term visit visa as above.
I would be interested to know how much harder it is to get one , and how the requirements differ .

just make a trial run application--but bail out before payment.

I think @OTT means harder to obtain the visa rather than filling the form out!
