"With 50 days to go to Brexit, the civil service is widening the net to recruit external contractors to help with what appears to be a military-style “Gold command”, which will operate out of offices close to Westminster.

According to briefing notes seen by the Guardian, the government is looking for “unflappable” individuals to help brief ministers and the Cabinet Office on any unfolding emergencies in a no-deal scenario.

Candidates are being offered between £300 and £400 a day and must be prepared to start by the end of this month."

How very sensible to setup a service to help distressed Remainers overcome their grief. That's the kind of caring, sharing support you get from a Tory government :like:

More faffing around after wasting 2½ years.

Hopefully we will get the hard Brexit we voted for, and then put the correct people into place to negotiate decent trade deals for the UK.

Which of the Leave campaigns advocated a "hard" Brexit?

Nigel insisted it would be just like Norway. Johnson said we would have a great deal. Hanan kept going on about Switzerland. Genuinely interested who suggested this was a good idea 2 1/2 years ago.

A no deal, clean break was the outcome "promised" in the government's Brexit booklet and was included as a Project Fear type warning. That led to tbe Vote Leave's billboard campaign you illustrated.

That is not a Vote Leave billboard campaign.
It is a recent EU remainer billboard campaign to discredit remarks made by Brexit supporting politicians during the referendum campaign.

At the time of the referendum the concept of "hard" or "soft" Brexit did not exist. The referendum result was a clear choice to take back control from the EU.
It seems that the UK government has deliberately played its negotiating hand very badly, and that the EU refuses to start negotiating a trade deal till after we have left.

All members of the big house down in Westminster should be charged with bringing the Country into disrepute, most of them are putting either there own/party interests first before carrying out the wishes of the majority of people, they are making the country a laughing stock over Brexit, and as usual ordinary people will be the ones to suffer, and the ones that make the decisions will barely be affected at all, shame on all of you..

Fake news. The government campaigned to remain.

    Eh? Fake news again.

I agree. Lots of dirty money headed towards the likes of Johnson and Kawczynski.

The fact is, nobody can honestly say what the majority of the county wants. Certainly, and it is undeniable, the Leave campaigns did not advocate the current position we find ourselves in. We are at risk of cutting off our closest trading partners, losing *OUR* freedom of movement in 27 countries and the break up of the Union. I can't see Scotland staying outside the EU for too long on a No Deal scenario, and Ireland becomes a crapshoot.

I see no harm whatsoever in a referendum to endorse whatever outcome the government negotiates. To be honest, my fear is that Leave will still win that vote. However, it would legitimise the outcome and silence the inevitable grumblings.

Yes, you're quite right, the government did campaign to remain. But the booklet it distributed to all households, at a cost of £9 million, did set out what a vote to leave would mean: a clean break.

    ???
Proof please, or could you at least give more details of the accusation you are making.

The one financial certainty are the large "contributions" that we are required to make towards the EU.

The majority of the country, honestly, made it perfectly clear what they wanted when they voted for Brexit in the referendum.

I do believe that there will be a free trade deal between ourselves and the EU, possibly brokered by the WTO, not least because Big Business in the EU27 will demand it. I think you will find that the UK is the EU27's biggest customer and business leaders are demanding that the politicians 'get real'. Punishing your biggest customer, as the Commission seeks to do, is perhaps not the best plan. Neither is insulting an electorate (Tusk and Varadkar) or their leaders (Juncker).

I don't share your enthusiasm for a further referendum as it will divide the country even more than it already is. As Priti Patel told a Question Time audience "best of three, women's tennis, best of five, men's tennis...".

Yes, but all they have done is reproduce word-for-word what Leave campaigners have said.

It's in the MPs Register of Interests.

David Davis 'consultancy' role at JCB.

Johnson receives a bung from JCB then does a £50k speech.

Reed Mogg moves his investment clients to Dublin to avoid Brexit turmoil.

Kawczynski suddenly becomes qualified to give advice at £6k/month to a Brexit leaning gold and minerals billionaire.

This isn't targeted at Leave. The whole scene has become woefully as corrupt as the lobbying in the USA.

The country is already divided because damn near half of us feel that Leave campaigned on prejudice and lies.

Leading Brexiteer Priti Patel's analogy to a best of three tennis match is disingenuous. It's a new game. This would be a vote on what our leaders have negotiated.
