Hi All, Me and my fiance have planned to get married this December in a simple civil wedding to start with. I have looked at the requirements and we both need to be present at the time to apply for a marriage license then you have to wait for them to process it. Is there anyway possible to book a date or at least have an idea of schedule. If I am travelling for 2/3 weeks ideally I need to be specific about the marriage license and date
It is possible to get it all done and dusted ... and MARRIED, within the normal 30 day visa waiver period Brits are given. Check local requirements and time scales with the local registrar's office (that you intend to use) there.
I just read as well that I need the certificate of no previous marriage from UK embassy here too which takes 21 days ?
No, you make an appointment with them at the Manila British embassy (online, on their website) at the same time downloading a form, which you fill in, print out, but don't sign. They will give you the Affidavit/Affirmation form you need for the local Phils registrar within about 30 minutes... at your appointment at the Manila British embassy. Have a look on their website... 'been there... done that'.
Hi Matt, You got everything done in 12 days and received the marriage certificate? We are struggling and just been informed it could 3-4 months for marriage certificate to arrive! Any advice on speeding things up? Thanks Dave
Hi Mattecube, could you give me some advice on how to speed things up too? Thank you. My mom asked a staff of the local registry in QC and they said that 10-11 days would be working days so I assumed that’s already 2 wks/14-15 days. Then wait for the PSA/NSO marriage cert. I was even considering HK because of the slow process if it’s in the Philippines. Thanks.
Have a look at this link in particular article 17 Art. 17. The local civil registrar shall prepare a notice which shall contain the full names and residences of the applicants for a marriage license and other data given in the applications. The notice shall be posted for ten consecutive days on a bulletin board outside the office of the local civil registrar located in a conspicuous place within the building and accessible to the general public. This notice shall request all persons having knowledge of any impediment to the marriage to advise the local civil registrar thereof. The marriage license shall be issued after the completion of the period of publication. (63a http://www.chanrobles.com/executiveorderno209.htm#.XPt9pYhKjIU
So not 'working' days either. Of course the Registrar arranged our marriage ceremony date (at the same premises) the required number of days after the displaying of the Banns anyway, so there was never going to be any mistake there. I believe while we were waiting for the licence, we attended the required marriage guidance seminar too.... and planted a few trees, so got those duties out of the way.
Thank you. How about the marriage cert from NSO/PSA, how long did you wait for it to be released? I’ve heard it can be done faster but not sure how fast. Some said it’s a month, others 2wks, and there’s a post here that it only took them 3 days. Thanks.
To be honest I think your best bet is speak to someone in the civil office and see if they can speed it up for you, offer a drink
