hi--welcome to the site. if you're in receipt of certain health related benefts you are exempted from the earnings requirement for sponsoring your partner.

Could you explain a bit further for us please. Cecille will still I imagine need a visa, but which one? Would the having to meet requirements apply? Sorry for so many questions, but it's s minefield. Thank you so much

    Step one:

I you haven't done so already, you will need to jet off to the Philippines and meet your young lady.

Then get your wallet out and proceed to step two... :like:

If you are in receipt of certain Benefits mostly disability or carers allowance then you could be exempt from the earnings requirement, if you are only on JSA then forget it.. there is basically NO simple way they all require plenty of homework, and the providing of evidence of a genuine relationship, if you meet the requirements then you have every chance of getting the required visa, if you dont, then i suggest you forget it.

The various visas are; Visit visa, Marriage visa, Fiancee visa, and Spouse visa, YOUR circumstances dictate which is the best one to apply for, and so far you have given us very little info for any of us to advise you, ;)

Apologies for delay in responding... flights are booked for September for myself to go pagadian. I will stay for 4 weeks. I personally am in receipt of pip, ESA, I've looked on the .gov website and the different amount of visas are confusing. I've never been married, so the option for us to marry is there.
Thanks for all your response. P.S. Wallet at the ready...she's worth it.....

in due course--if it all works out for both of you--she will need a settlement visa: either for fiancee or spouse. be prepared to pay upwards of £8000 in visa fees and health surcharges over the next 5 years.

as you get PIP--you are exempted from meeting the earnings requirement--but you will have to prove you meet the income support level for a couple--after deducting your housing costs. but no point worrying about that at this stage.

have you met in person before ? is she--or has she ever been married ? does she have any kids ?

if she has been married before she has to get an annulment. so it is most important that you establish the situation

We will be meeting soon, by the end of this year. She needs an annulment, has her husband deserted her 7 year's ago. The biggest stumbling block is getting her to UK, then the rest we can take on the chin together.

she will have to get the annulment out of the way before you can do anything. i had the same problem. there is no divorce in the philippines. my --now--wifes annulment cost me £2000---which was cheap. it took 18 months--which was quick.

the only other way to get her to the UK is if she applies for a visit visa--for a holiday. they are often refused..she will have to prove strong compelling reasons to return home--such as a proper job, home etc.

If this relationship doesn't work out (after you've actually met), may I recommend that out of the many hundreds of thousands of eligible young ladies in the Phils, you go for a single, childless orphan... to smooth the bureaucratic processes, and reduce future demands upon your wallet. :like:

What exams has she taken? What qualifications has she got?
Is her job on the UK shortage of skills list?

I'm not 100% but I think the fact her husband deserted her, maybe in our favour. She lives either with her grandmother or parents, no home of her own. She has just finished a short 4 months housekeeping course. Do you think, in your experience, that if I'm there, with her rolling up to the UK consulate would better our chances??

Your visa paths are limited and in the distance of time.
For all the available visas the marriage annulment is the first step and then think about visas.
I think in your circumstances even a visit visa would be a long shot!
Which consulate would you want to roll up to?
It is good practice in the Philippines for the foreigner to know their place in any official office (should they get past the visiting area) you pretty much speak when spoken to which is often seldom!
So if you do visit be aware be polite or be at risk!

When applying for visa you have no contact with Embassey. You apply online, submit your application and supporting documents at a company called vfsglobal who will only let her into the building (been inside but only because we were doing stepchild application and I was there helping with stepchildren). They only accept the application and are not part of decision making so no opportunity to influence application.

As has been said getting an annulment will be a long, complicated and expensive process with no guarantee of success.

    Best of luck.
