I cannot find a source for each of the programmes in the series, in their entirety. I don’t have access to iplayer at the moment either. But it seems he covered the Khyber Pass Etc in the first programme.

A few years ago I started to do a lot of research on Everest and was looking at the region from that angle in particular but Palin not only looked at the scenery but also the people’s in the region, how they live, their history, the conflicts etc etc.

I have been on that train when the area used to be known as NWFP. I did the helicopter flight to everest last year and the basecamp trek in the early 1990's,i always wanted to attempt the climb when I was physically at my peak but didn't have the cash, now I have the cash I ain't match fit sadly.

I bet you enjoyed all of that.

Yes many have lost their lives climbing Everest.

When I was researching Everest I came across Kenton Cool. I ended up buying his book for my boss who had also been up to base camp. He, my boss, also has run out of climbing steam in his life.

Now that I am back in the UK I see that they aren’t available on iPlayer. But are available on DVD through Amazon.

BYW Wouldn’t it be great to see Palin do the Philippines?

He did the Philippines in his round the world series, it was pretty so/so, to be honest I don't think there's enough material in the PI for a series.

So he did. I either didn’t know that or forgot it. I watched quite a lot of that series with my ex wife, long before I met my wife or set foot in the Philippines.

Yup, drove a jeepney, banaue rice terraces, few other things then continued his trip, there's only so much he could have done in the PI to capture an audience, could have made an hours program but a series would have been stretching it.

Met two guys today who had summited Everest, one at 67 years old so theres hope for me yet :) Loads of countries at the adventure travel show, all had very good stalls, the Philippines was noticeable by its absence, they missed a trick today, the Philippine tourist guy in the embassy needs his ass kicking. As I was walking from the station to Olympia I was passing transvestites, lots of them,LOTS of them, thousands queueing,i thought this cant be right, but they were lining up for drag queen Rupauls Drag Con 2020

the thing is --see--if someone climbs a mountain--and gets to the top...spends time tidying the place up--burning all the litter left behind by all the previous climbers...then what does he do--?

he has to unclimb all the way back down again--right back where he started from.
next time--cross a road for no reason..then cross back over again. same result--a lot less effort.

you have not been charged for this pointless message. but you cant unread it.

Life is a journey filled with experiences.

As Roger Waters wrote in "Free Four" on "Obscured By Clouds" :
"The memories of a man in his old age
Are the deeds of a man in his prime."

However, if we believed this, there would be less of a reason to make new memories when our "prime" moves into less energetic pursuits.
For me, life should be about enjoying fun, but in equal measures with quiet contemplation.

I would not climb Everest because I would like to come home to my kids! but I do look forward to the next scuba dive which, for me, is a deed of a man.
I salute everyone who wants to do amazing, energetic things but I also admire people who have the patience to paint, complete a 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle or read a good book.
