Ashfall in Manila is quite light so far from the pictures James posted. This is an empty pool we have on the terrace it has another canopy over the top of this but it does not look too bad yet.
Taal is 30 miles from us, by contrast Pinatubo was 60 odd miles from where we are when it went up back in the early 90s.

Volcanoes have made new land and Asteroids made the seas. The Earth is an amazing planet and things that happen in space are even more awe-inspiring.
Not sure Asteroids made the seas Mike, not unless you are talking about the original delivery of water to the Earth some 4 billion years back.
