I suppose it will all boil down to admitting to ourselves that we will probably all get the virus in the end and whose immune systems will shake it off.

If I look at the daily rags online, they paint a very grim outlook. However, they paint a very grim outlook at the best of times just to get more website "hits" or sell paper copies o_O

I still feel the same as in the last post, Dom - I suppose it will all boil down to admitting to ourselves that we will probably all get the virus in the end and whose immune systems will shake it off.

Ventured out yesterday four hours to get a delivery done over in Coventry, then when i got back first port of call was Lidl which is almost directly over the road from me, got a few things from Lidl, but they had no eggs, wipes, hand sanitizer or Soaps, they were doing nothing different hygiene wise ie nothing provided to prevent catching the virus, kept 2 metres away from the person in front, but the guy behind was wearing a mask but didnt keep the 2 metres distance maybe thought he was okay so my problem if i caught anything from him. Then ventured up to Tesco they have wipes, hand role available at the entrance to wipe clean your own hands trolley handles etc etc, No eggs, no wipes, no hand sanitizer, no Milk of any kind, the stock situation seemed much better generally Meat available of all kinds, but no Chicken, fresh fruit and veg plentiful, Bread available, just the milk that was out of stock, i would guess the store had 75%/80% availability of most things.
This was our first days shop since Friday as luckily i forsaw the situation over the weekend, that will do us now until Friday, just need to get hold of some eggs and a Chicken.. but which comes first :D.

Dom there are 1236 mutations in this graphic which I captured last night, the popup with the data at the lower left is the first strain and the confidence range time period within which they reckoned it emerged, each branch is a new strain.

    This is completely normal.

if you use the website you can click on any round dot to trace the lineage after you drill down click the 'reset layout' button to come out to see the whole graph.

edit: I should have said click on any line to scope to that lineage.

This "thing" is mutating to fast and too often for scientists to come out with a quick and viable vaccine or cure.

Hit and miss and a very strong and unaffected immune system (which I am short of..).........

No Dom, this is normal it is no faster than the rate flu mutates at.

This virus is actually more stable than influenza, you get mutations in coding and non-coding regions, real mutations that could affect how it behaves happen in the coding regions (we think however there are caveats about the non coding regions) and the bit that really matters for this virus is the genes that code for the spike proteins (the pointy bits that make it look like a Crown), it is the spike proteins that need to be attacked as they are the virus's method of breaking into our cells.

The coding for the spike proteins is quite stable and that is the bit that we need to generate antibodies for as the antibodies deactivate the spike proteins.

My obesity is a major issue, I think I won't go out for maybe the next 6 weeks apart from to take out the bins, I have enough food for about that long and I should really use this as an opportunity to lose weight, although with little activity that will be hard.

There have been so many people at work who have stayed away as they say they have symptoms when they probably do not.
The government has also told people to stay home.
Let's be honest, many people are frightened and they see that H & S in our workplaces is abysmal in these critical days.
The NHS didn't even have proper protective clothing and visors.

H & S is abysmal because companies will not spend money making it safer. They look after the pennies when they will have to spends pounds later.
Nobody wants to spray and use disinfectants in warehouses and distribution centres because it will cost too much.
None of these firms watched what China did in Wuhan - there were trucks in the streets spraying everywhere as well as people being forced to stay at home.

Money won't be spent until it is too late.

Aldi has been the same. My wife works in Aldi and they have done nothing to protect staff or customers, other than to say people can take unpaid leave if they want to. She has done that, although initially taking paid leave by moving her holiday forward as our scheduled trips this year aren't going to happen anyway.

She actually asked me to comment on the Tell Aldi site about it, which I did, suggesting a 2m policy and 2m marks on the floor for people to stay within. I also suggested card only payment and people packing bags away from the till.

I went to the local Tesco yesterday and it wasn't too busy. I couldn't get eggs, but bought some in a corner shop on the way home. The egg section in Tesco had no stock but plenty of broken eggs on the floor.
