I have read somewhere (cant find it now) that while we are still in transition we are able to take our wives with us to visit a European country without the need for them obtaining a schengen visa, providing they travel with the Spouse, am i right in thinking this is the case ?. We only want to do a long weekend in either Paris her choice or Rome my choice.. thanks in anticipation..

You need a schengen visa unless you are From and hold a passport of another European nation, UK was never park of the schengen free zone so your mrs will need a visa even if travelling with you.

I guess this thing isnt going away any time soon, we have to weigh up the rsks involved in going somewhere for a break, against the risks we face staying put at home in the Uk, personally i think the risk of Covid 19 is not any greater if we go for a short break in europe, in my work Im travelling around the Uk, and my wife works as a support worker, so all in all i think taking a break in europe is no bigger threat/risk than what we face in our everyday lives.. Just that the applying for a shenghen visa is a bit of a pain in the butt..

Turkey (single entry e-visa) or Morraco may be options.

Land border between Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland doesn't normally have checks but still illegal to cross the border and driving yourself is safer option as seem to remember hearing of bus passengers being checked ocasionally. Ports and airports in republic I believe do have checks although not gone through them so couldn't swear to it. No issues going to Northern Ireland although seem to remember seeing people with border force jackets in Belfast port last time went through.

It came up in my Facebook. I had a work colleague who lived there as her husband was based there in the Navy. But it’s quite small is it not? And would of course be effectively cut off from Spain at the moment.

I haven’t booked it. It struck me as interesting.

If entering through Spain a Philippines passport holder would need a Schengen visa for Spain, if flying in direct, a Philippines passport holder requires a visa.

Yes, the rock is a small place, I actually met a filipina there when I went into the rolex shop, and I met a few others who live and work there or who work on Gib but live in LA linea.

I gather in normal times one can walk across to Spain by crossing the airport runway. I wouldn’t mind visiting out of curiosity. My first job after university was with a small outfit called the Gibraltar Company, working in Libya.

If I remember rightly my ex work colleague enjoyed the sunshine but she got bored with the life there. They jacked it in and returned home to the Isle of Man. Couple of years ago they jacked that in and settled in Tenerife.

We came across similar monkeys in a visit to Trentham Gardens.
