A few threats from Brussels in that article, "do as we say or be dammed" clearly demonstrates Brussels as a bully workshop of wannabe world leaders. Role on January 2021
Where? Please point to where in that article the EU is threatening Switzerland or are you talking about the last sentence.
The Swiss have the habit of Let's see what happens when the referendum takes place. The Swiss do tend to be very protective of their indipendence and freedoms
On my phone so can't copy yes last para plus 10 down from the top ( yes it's historical) I know you won't see it as I see it, but I see it as I see it In my view the EEC becoming the EU has become something that it was not intended to be and not for the good. Sweden won't be the last holding a referendum! Oh and I am all for free movement of people as long as they don't expect my taxes in benefits.
It is Switzerland who might hold this referendum and they are not members of the EU. Do you mean this one. Switzerland entered into agreements with the EU regards Freedom of Movement in order to get the trade terms they wanted at the time, so if they want out of Freedom of Movement it stands to reason that they want out of their trade agreements with the EU or do they want to have their cake and eat it. There are no threats there are natural outcomes from rescinding treaty agreements and accords. What I really object to in these discussions is the rhetoric, it is dishonest, that article deliberately portrays a picture of conflict with the big bad nasty EU, and it is done to stir up hatred and division. If you sign a treaty you accept the consequences of that treaty if you want out of it you accept the consequences of leaving the agreement, that's it, the EU are just making the reality clear.
Are you implying I am being dishonest or the article? As I said in my post you see it your way and I see it my way. Dialogue is good before threats of what may happen. Had the EU or whoever said " if you do this there maybe this or that" it's not as threatening it's opens the way for talks Your right the big EU is bad and nasty ( your words) I thought you were pro EU but surely not as they are big and nasty.
You see it the way the newspaper or your favourite news channel or other media outlet tells you to see it, I look for proof, I try to ask myself this kind of question "do I think I know something because I think I know enough about the subject", I ask myself "are my opinions valid", I look for evidence and I try to check if the sources of that evidence are factual or one sided propaganda, I ask myself am I experiencing "dunning kruger" right now, am I at fault because I think I know more than I actually do. You didn't respond to any point I made in that post, the article is not talking about Sweden, Switzerland is not a member of the EU, and treaties come with responsibilities on both sides.
Fully aware of Switzerland status with the EU, they being the common theme Iam not blindly led by one or another of my favourite media sources, I dont have a favourite! I to read and listen to many sources, I normally at present have an opportunity to listen to many sources throughout the day non tell me which is right or wrong I listen to the points and draw my own views( not sure why I am explaining myself here to you ) maybe!!
The Swiss have something that most European nations in the EU don't dare use....... The willingness to put questions, through a referendum, to the the voters. And to which the various Governments are obliged to act on the results. This time it was only to reduce freedom of movement from EU citizens and, obviously the misjudged the feeling a bit, but still the way they see it, 37% is a number they can build on. So the chances are that in another 6/7 years they may well try again. A few oldies still remember the Shwarzenbach years..
