Are these pre-tax or after tax numbers? Well I know lawyers who were in the 21,000 - 43,000 bracket ten years ago so Lito was lower middle class I wonder. My kids would be upper middle class on this assessment, when their school fees are taken into account. Rich appears to be someone on a western professional salary. The real rich over there are earning a lot more than 3500 quid a month. They are still paying salary levels for a 24 day month of close to 10,000 or 11,000 PHP so that is the reality for a great many, families that have 2 or three kids working along with mum or dad would be classed lower middle class on that basis but that would be on a collective family income basis.
This appears to be drawn up by the business classes to keep the plebs in place by telling then them they are doing great. I met a guy on a flight many years years ago Fil-Am perfect English he worked for PayPal/eBay in the Philippines and was travelling business class to Ireland and had the seat next to me, he was on about 3 million peso a year this was back about 2007, he was great fun to talk to very bright and gave me a lot of insight into the country from the viewpoint of someone who was rather better off. I noticed that he later got a job with Microsoft so I expect he is still doing well, there are good jobs and there are good industries for westerners in the Phils to be in. When I finally retire if I live that long my pensions would put me in the "Upper but not rich" category.
There's a nurse in the family, works 6 days a week, takes home per month 5500 pesos, she was laughing at that, but said its for the experience not the salary, she wants to be part of the Brain-drain and move abroad as soon as she is able.
So is a Marcus Rashford working class or what class would he fit into. Social classes are just a rough guide. Any attempt to use a fixed classification will throw up many exceptions. How about Wayne Rooney? There is a fairly comprehensive system Sociologists use but couldn’t find it today. Are school teachers’s working class? If your brother who is a year older than you is a manager in a large company but you are a production line worker. Which class are you and your brother. If you are a pensioner or have been made redundant, where do you fit in. Is it down to income?
Who's Marcus Rashford ? I've heard of the other one. Class, people mean so many different things when they talk about class these days, we or rather lots of people will apply labels like Chav or Ned to people so you are right there is no fixed class system in that sense, education and money even that does not work. In terms of the question in the OP it is framed as a wealth question but it is clearly much more complex than that.
Based on that my ex work colleague on his Shell pension is “Rich”. Was Skyping with him the other day. He hasn’t worked (to my knowledge) since 2016. He now amongst other things “faith heals”. Pokwang being one of his patients.
Faith healers I know a few filipina knocking out the overtime as nurses in Canada making 100,000 dollars a year, light years away from their counterparts back in the PI, the pinay nurses live at home, their Canadian counterparts have beautiful detached 4 bedroom houses, both the same social class?
M i find that staggering. is that considered a liveable wage ? my wife sends home 8 times that most months--even more some times.
The girl has a child, her husband stays home and looks after the kid, short term losses for long term gains, they are using her nursing degree to escape abroad as soon as they are able, she is a smart kid, she has a long term plan.
Some filipina nurses in the PI are earning less than a shop assistant https://amp-scmp-com.cdn.ampproject...s?amp_js_v=a6&_gsa=1&usqp=mq331AQFKAGwASA=
Thats shocking.. No wonder phili are losing all of their nurses etc. Bit looking at stats.. They are still doing better in covid then us also... They are being ruined here when they come uk also... For me they wont hit full potential with all gov rules and no good equipment also
