Anyone thinking about a Christmas trip to the Philippines later this year? (Yes I know its a long way off ) no negative comments on covid restrictions required! looking at skyscanner there appears some good prices,do airlines do a christmas club?

I currently plan to be there from mid Dec to mid Jan, I would be more worried about which airlines are still in business by that time and which routes are still supported, and unless flights were purchased now I am not sure I the prices will be ok by the middle of the year.

I've never heard of an airline Christmas club, but you can bet that there will still be many Filipino's travelling home next Christmas probably vastly more than normal.

I can see me paying for business class just to be able to get there.

I am actually planning three trips this year, don't know if any of them will happen.

KLM did that to me last year, they still have over 600 quid of my money and all I've got is an email at the end of last March, I can only ask for my money back after April 1st and maybe not even then, and in order to claim on my travel insurance I have to renew that travel insurance for another year where I might not travel.

I know we think there will be some semblance of normality by the time next Christmas comes around but every time we seem to breathe a sigh of relief we get another kick in the nuts with this virus.

It will be fine by mid year be optimistic not pesimistic regardless the thread is about flights to the Philippines at Christmas not another Covid related thread.

I agree. Except me and the Mrs are going to wait until the dust settles before contemplating getting in a plane. For several reasons. Of course we hope that it will be fine by the summer. Just thinking cautiously, that’s all.

It's going to be a surprise for my wife and daughter casually give them the tickets early December as an early present!
Just got to find a way of siphoning the money out of the account hence the Christmas club idea.

I have worries about flying this year too, mostly about maintenance and the recommissioning of grounded aircraft, but that's probably best saved for the other thread too.

Aren't there other kinds of Christmas club savings plan that you could try that you could get cash back from later on, going to be tricky paying at the outset though, you could try getting a credit card with 0% on purchases for 9 months or something like that, and then syphon a little money to pay for the flights each month.

Yes but if you book the flight now at the prices ( covered by travel insurence) then paid in full before you travel.
You have seats at a good cost

Yeah that's why I shifted my point mid sentence, credit card buy now at 0% and they are jointly liable for the flights under section 75 and pay it down over the rest of the year.

Flights are kind of strange, airlines could offer credit to people as after all you are almost always pre-paying your flights a good period of time in advance, they might start offering something like that to help their cashflow after the current situation resolves.

The main existing restriction on flying will I think be the declared state of calamity in the Philippines which currently runs until this September and hopefully will not be extended.

We just watched Bisayang Hilaw last night but Carson Moody and his girlfriend have just moved from Negros to Cebu. He thinks the tourists are going to be swarming all over the place pretty soon and gives the impression that Covid security is going to be eased pretty soon ...

I think a lot of those travel vloggers have to be upbeat and positive, there's a couple trying to promote tourism in Pakistan in areas I know are still sensitive, I haven't even heard of Carson moody but unless he is privvy to insider governmental info I then a covid easing is just his personal viewpoint?

He is quite a prolific vlogger. But yes, I think you are right. It surprised me when he said it.

Vloggers have to be prolific to remain current and the more vlogs they churn out the more cash they get, its their job,the planet is filled with them all imagining they are unique in their bubbles and all spouting wisdom which is anything but, entertaining I guess :)

Mrs Ash likes to watch one or two now and again. Like many Filipinas she doesn’t participate in a Filipino forum and instead she watches a few vloggers. Which of the two is more beneficial (in terms of wisdom or entertainment) is debatable.
