Hi Everyone, Has anyone of you here applied for citizenship from June onwards this year? Have you got any reply or decision yet?
Wife applied in September with biometrics at beginning of October and still waiting. Reading on another forum seems to take 3 months+ from biometrics to be processed. Home Office take line that expect it can take up to six months to be processed so not much opportunity to chase what is happening before that point. Only opportunity to get any insight on whether they are doing anything is if your referees are contacted.
Thank you, after 5 months of waiting finally received an email today that my BC application has been approved!
Question for mattecube or anyone else, wife has applied for B/C but still in her maiden name, can she change this when she applies for U/k passport or should we ask the home office to change it during the application if this won't hold it up, all visas in maiden name including ILR, or another way would be get U/K passport them after a few months ask to change t married name, phils passport is in maiden name also, she wants it changed but with the least hassle, any suggestions?
You can change it at passport application stage. If I recall correctly there is a section for applicants name and a section for the required name on the passport. You will probably have to provide marriage certificate as evidence of name change. This is the way my wife did it unless it is a personal choice you can keep your maiden name passport till it expires.
thanks mattecube the guy at the sopra centre yesterday said whatever the name is on the B/C is the name you must use when you apply for U/K passport, but if that is what you did then that is what we will do, think what he said is wrong, i think it will lead to hassle to try and change the name during B/c application, so we will let the application keep going in her maiden name.
When we did ours although we supplied the references the passport office only e mailed the referees for confirmation of the applicant
I read the question as citizenship application as opposed to passport application. For passport application they always contact referees for confirmation of applicant. For citizenship aplications get impression that they dont although wife is still waiting at the 5.5 month point for response and to best of my knowledge neither reference has been contacted so far so possible they might still be contacted. Not sure on other peoples experience.
Our referees at BC were not contacted and we used the same referees for Passport application when they were e mailed
Thnx for all the replies 5 .5 months must be close now Br28016, was hoping for a bit less than that, is that without any problems? with summer holidays on the horizon and a U/K passport for the wife would be handy in 4 Months or so.
I know this question and situation crops up a lot, with lots of different views. I have decided to act early. We visited London this week so decided to go to the Emabassy (which was a walk-in service) and have applied for a new Filo passport into her married name. When the passport comes back then we will change her BRP before they go digital in Dec. I know it’s more expense but at least it will be completed in plenty of time when her visa extension is due in feb 26 and make things easier long term.
Our circumstances are complicated - done from abroad, relies on some non standard rules and as submitted from abroad need to send in stuff on paper and biometrics are a bit more complicated and took longer to sort - have to get home office to book biometrics with local provider. Heard absolutely nothing back so have to assume going through ok. Standard applications from the UK are going through quicker as follow a few sites and applications submitted around same time are already approved. In about two weeks time if dont hear anything will be dropping my MP an email asking him to chase for an update along with all of the other chasing routes.
