can any one tell me if the (CNI) for marriage starts from the time of issue as i am confused by the British Embassy rules on there web site what are the legal requirements for a marriage in Bagio as we only have 16 days to marry has any one got any good advise or anything that would help thanks
Welcome to the forum Eddie. I would assume so, but the other guys will be better at telling you for sure. With only sixteen days to complete everything I would think that there would be no problem if you got your CNI in the UK just before travelling and converted it to a local CENOMAR (I think?) over there, biggest problem with timing I think is the local posting of banns but I am not sure? I need help in this direction too!
The answer is Yes! There is a 3 week waiting time before you can get one, and the moment you get it issued is the day it starts from. I timed mine so that my CNI was issued about 4 weeks before I flew to the Philippines, I could have cut it sooner but I was a little nervous. But to be honest there is no need to be, you could be flying out in 4 weeks and make an appointment to see your local registrar this week to start the three week wait and have it a few days before you fly out.
Hello Eddie, welcome here to the forum. As others have said, in the UK it's 21 days waiting while the banns are posted then your UK CNI is issued. It will be valid for conversion to the local (Philippine) CNI (sometimes called Certificate of Legal Capacity to Marry). This local CNI has a validity of 3 months. The British Embassy will issue this to you but you need to have previously booked an appoinment to do this. Most authorties involved with marriage will additionally require a CENOMAR for you both (Certificate of No Marriage) from NSO (National Statistics Office). Your fiancee may be able to secure this for you either. The marriage licence can be applied for in your fiancée's home town at the registry office. (or locality of where marriage will take place) You might also be requested to attend the "Pre-Marriage Seminar" counselling sessions prior to being allowed to be married. Check and ask when you apply for the marriage licence After you apply for the license there is a mandatory 10 day waiting period while the marriage banns are published It is just about possible to get married within the 16 days you've allocated if you have everything organised well. Your Fiancee will need to help with that. Make no mistake it's tight and needs planning. One idea would be to engage a wedding 'agent' who can organise things for you. I have known a few people who have done this and these agents can work magic with timings and schedules that you will not be able to achieve. Just food for thought. Good luck
I had to wait three weeks in the UK (banns) then two weeks (banns) British Embassy Philippines, then the Pre-Marriage Seminar that can take a week or more, if it wasn't for my wife's family and friends and the grateful help of the Mayor of Makati City who was to marry us, we wouldn't have made it in the time I had (21 days visa) everyday office paper work, I had one day of rest in the time I had, and that was the day before the flight back, so if you can make it in 16 days good luck to you, like the above post "Make no mistake it's tight and needs planning"
can any one give me a rough idea on how much it costs to hire a wedding agent and where to find one in Bagio thank's
thank's for all your help so far you seem clued up and you suggested using an agent.i have searched in google with no luck trying to find one. we intend to marry i Baguio City.would you know of any there many thank's once again for you help.Eddie
Eddie, I'm sure your fiancee can find someone to help with the wedding plans. There are plenty around. A quick google search brings up loads. Search under wedding planner Philippines /wedding co-ordinator Philippines etc. Better still is to use one that has been recommended by a friend etc.
I was pressed for available time off work at the time. We did it in 2 1/2 weeks including my flight time. I arrived late on the wednesday (midnight), we exchanged CNI's at the embassy on thursday and friday (as it took 2 days back then in 2011), processed papers on the monday (marriage license etc) and got married on the tuesday. Then we went on honeymoon and I remained in the country for a further obligatory 10 days. We managed to circumnavigate the seminar requirement, which was proving a bit of a stumbling block and used an agent in Manila to help us out with that. It was a tight schedule but there was some inbuilt contingency time in case we hit any snags. We even managed to succesfully dodge a couple of typhoons - married in June.
have i got this right we can get married as soon as we get the licence then wait for 10 days?not the other way round
If you're looking for someone to organise and coordinate your wedding, there's only one guy I would recommend without reservation and that's Paul Whiteway who, with his wife Elsa, run Cebu Expat Services. Paul's originally from the Thames Valley area but spent many years in Australia before moving to Cebu. He can organise weddings throughout the Philippines and, where your personal attendance is not required, he can obtain all the necessary documentation in advance on your behalf.
Thats exactly what we did. Ours was a civil wedding and all the paperwork with Paranaque city hall and the reverend was done on the monday and the wedding ceremony was conducted on the tuesday. Then the 10 day wait. It took a bit to get my head around it but it worked. We used an agent to help us make sure it went tickety-boo.
thank's for the info Markham i don't suppose you have a contact for him (ie) email or web address and a rough idea of the cost many thank's Eddie.
John thanks for that excuse my ignorance but what is the difference with a civil wedding and a normal one will my wife to be be able to come to the UK if we do that. also do you have a contact for the agent you used (ie) email or web address many thanks Eddie
A Civil wedding is much like a registry office wedding here in the UK. I will try and dig out the name of the agent. She was based in Manila. Your wife would be eligible for a spouse visa application either way.
The link to Paul's web site was in my post but in case you missed it, click on Cebu Expat Services and all will be revealed - including sample prices and contact details!
