Already posted about getting my wife's UK citizenship before we leave to live over in the Phils......but if it should be proccessed before we go,...do they take her Philippines passport off her and she has to apply for a UK passport before we travel ?? Also,...if she takes her oathe for UK citizenship before we go ,...can we get her Dual nationality when we are over in Philippines ??
John, As far as I know, once British Citizenship is acquired, Philippine Citizenship is no longer valid and has to be re applied for. No doubt some one will clarify that but I believe that is it in a nutshell.

Okay, so I read the links above,... thanks,.... when do you actually become a citizen,..?...is it after the oath taking ? If my wife doesn't want to / have time to get her UK passport, can we still travel on her Phils one and get an application done for the UK when we are over there ? Sorry, I must seem quite thick !!
John, I would like to know the answer to that too. Subseastu will know the answer to that, at the very least.
For simple cases like you guys it is a simple administrative procedure, easy to regain here or over in the Phils, for Ana it was much harder as she was stateless when we were trying to get her citizenship back. Reality is unless there is reporting between the UK authorities and the Philippine embassy when your wife acquires UK citizenship then no one will be any the wiser unless she is stopped and found to be carrying a UK passport. Marriage by itself does not lose you citizenship but oath of allegiance does I believe.
What I found out today from a friend who went through this proccess, although their account might not be too accurate..... When my wife gets her reply back which should be an acceptance, she will then go for an oath taking ceremony at a nearby office. This is when she will now be classed as a UK citizen. They do not take her old Philippines passport from her. We do not have time to wait for, or go for an interview to get her a UK passport,...so can we use her Philippines passport to go out to live there ?..even although she was now a UK citizen ? If we should return 5 or 10 years later,...will she be allowed to come back into the country again (by producing her certificate stating she is UK citizen), by which time she will have applied to have dual citizenship while we are over in Phils ? Wow,...this is getting complicated !! Any ideas ??? Jonny
Jonny, I dont know the answer to your question but could your wife not simply acquire a new UK passport at the UKBA in the Philippines? Just a thought....throwing an idea into the pot...
mmmm,...never thought of looking into that one John. Sounds too easy to be true,...but hey you might be right . I know she will need to go for an interview if she applies for her UK passport in UK, so I'm sure they might be able to do the same in Phils...
Worth looking into. However, there may be one or two, here, that will know the answer to that one too.
