Hi everyone Does anyone know of a good book/online resource for learning Tag? Either self learning, or as a guide for my Filipina asawa to teach me? Ta
Thanks Timmers...am going to try! I may settle for just the basics, it's good to use the odd word or two when in the Philippines
Hi Steve, I googled a while back to reply to this thread. If you are using an iPad or any tablet, the App Store and google play store have apps you could download.. Here's one from the App Store: Learn Tagalog™ by Greg Vick https://appsto.re/gb/VWDCF.i Pretty sure there are other apps from google play store also. Have fun learning Tagalog
lots to choose http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/?ie=UTF8&...qmt=p&hvbmt=bb&hvdev=c&ref=pd_sl_5mrmwv1ze2_b but i would look at Rosetta Stone on offer at the moment http://www.rosettastone.co.uk/learn-tagalog
Hi Steve, To be honest, I've always found it tough to learn new languages. It's a lot easier when you live in the country and are truly immersed. I'm of the opinion that learning a language can often be a highly personal and individual choice. We all learn best in slightly ways, and we all need to slot in the time to concentrate and practice. One of the many good things about being a member of a forum community is that there are always plenty of hints, tips and potentially useful resources. Something to surely suit everyone IMO a good choice for you in learning Tagalog may be BYKI (Before You Know It) It's free. Another very helpful aspect is that this also includes 'vocalisations', so you can actually hear how a word is pronounced. Take a look for yourself here:- http://www.byki.com
Not down here, they don't! Vis-Mins are predominantly Visayan/Cebuano speakers and may ignore you if you engage them in Tagalog.
If ever I get stuck I revert to whatever Tagalog I can No been ignored so far. Maybe I look like an old guy in need of help.
Try pissing off your wife a couple of times, you'll quickly learn the Filipino language. Kidding! Learn the basic structure and grammar. Better you attend some Filipino classes. I'm sure you'll find one. Then ask your wife to speak to you in Filipino. You'll get the hang of it.
Best way to learn is write down whole sentences of what you want to say in English and ask your other half to translate it underneath.. Read the translations over and over and eventually they will stick.. No good learning one word at a time as the grammar goes pear shaped and you will sound retarded ..
I am useless at languages but I understand that learning to name things is the first step, so that is the nouns. I am sure someone will tear me to pieces on that, so let me say oranges, lemons, cucumbers to you.
Mate, it's okay if he sounds like a tribal at first (broken Tagalog). Practice is the best way to learn. Plus us Pinoys find it endearing to see a non-Pinoy trying to speak our language even if it sounds garbled or messed up. Plus points again if you can curse while drunk.
I popped into the store last night to get some supplies..There were 3 Pinoys sitting there drunk as skunks..One offered me a Tagay which I downed in one.. He then offered me a chair.. (oh dear!) I explained to him in Tagalog that I was already late and my wife was probably angry!. They all sympathized with me and accepted this as a valid excuse for me to leave.. I think its time I learned Bisaya though.
Lasinggeros understand very well the plights resulting from an angry, nagging wife. I only know the Tagalog dialect. You'll beat me.
English is a very forgiving language. Even with completely wrong grammar there's a communication understanding. Definitely not the same in Japan. Very tricky here in Philippines too. IMO
