Thank you. Any ideas on the pre-marriage guidance certificate, do we have to go to Manila. I'm planning to visit the UK Embassy in May, get affidavit signed, while in Manila, my fiancée will take TB test
Sorry no idea about pre-marriage certificate. Will she take the English test too whilst in Manila? She can do TB and English test there to save trip.
She has Degree which was taught in English, so going down the route of getting that authorized in London.
Make sure that is recognised. Someone applied before and didn't take the English test because she has Degree taught in English but it wasn't recognised so it was refused and she ended up taking the English test in the end.
She needs to get her qualification compared to that of the UK equivalent. You can do it here. https://www.naric.org.uk/naric/Individuals/Default.aspx
Yes thanks, I've been looking at that website, she is in process of getting signed letter from her university.
With NARIC you need to get the degree deemed equivalent to UK degree, then you need to get the certificate from NARIC showing the level of English the degree was taught in, CEFR 1 is the highest level they will go to which is more than adequate. You need all the transcripts from the university plus a letter from them stating that the degree was taught in English, note that my wife initially had a letter from her university stating that the medium was Filipino/English and NARIC would not except it. NARIC ended up contacting the university for clarification before finally issuing the certificate.
For the degree to be compared they need a transcript of all the assignments that made up the degree, in my wife's case it was a wad of paperwork as she did a LIACOM which is two degrees in one go (5 years). The transcripts look like a certificate but they are not. NARIC now do a joint degree and English certificate, that will be the way to go, the thing I don't like about this though is if the degree is not deemed the equivalent of a British one you will lose the money for the English certificate. If you are just starting out on your visa journey then I would highly recommend that you avail to the NARIC service, then the loved one can use the NARIC reference number on her CV and she will not have to take an English Test for any of the visa applications where the requirements for English keep chopping and changing.
Hi, all, yes, just started out on visa journey. We have booked UK Embassy in May and also TB test while we are in Manila
Thanks for the information Timmers. My fiancée has obtained a letter from University stating that the degree was taught in English...But she has not got the transcripts, the sent them in when she applied for, and got a job with the Philippine Government in the 1980's. So I guess they are lost now...lol. Has anyone else had experience of the NARIC Service?
She can request copies of her transcripts from the university, they will stamp and certify them as true copies. She also needs a course description of every subject taken for the degree (with Filipino subjects translated in English). I don't know about the university your missus attended but the uni my wife went to (De La Salle) has a administration department that deals with stuff like this, some have online services where you can make inquiries too. Note I am only knowledgeable on this because my wife is sat next to me and I'm asking her A couple of the lovely ladies on the forum have used NARIC and may be able to give you some further information @Dav3&Ai5a springs to mind.
Well my missus had no problems getting her paperwork three years ago and she finished her degree in 1989. Good luck with it all
If its a proper university, they should still have it since they are required by ched (commission on higher education). My mum who graduated from a local university in davao city late '75 had to request her transcript of records with stamp etc since she wanted to get her master's degree about 5 yrs ago in a different school. Thats nearly 30 yrs after she graduated university.
Wow, thanks Maley, that has given me a boost...I will ask my lady to contact the University again....I will keep you posted. This site has many helpful members.
Hi @Talbot.. I'm sure your wife can still request copies from their uni registrar. Aside from the transcripts and evidence of medium of instruction, she'll need her certificate/diploma. Make sure she asks for an English translation as some universities issue certificates in Filipino. Good luck!
