We stayed at Kew last year and caught the underground in each day. We didn’t visit Kew Gardens as it was the wrong time of the year but did visit the Natural History museum. 5 nights wasn’t enough at all. We all enjoyed the trip.
Tisoy and Tisay are the short versions that usually appear to be used for those with specifically American ancestry, Mestiza and Mestizo seem to be used for everyone else such as our children, I'm not sure if the distinction between American and the rest of the world is actually made in the Philippines nowadays but it is one that I learned a long time ago, it basically means mixed race whatever version is used.
Mestizo (m) and Mestiza (f) came from Spanish, Jim. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mestizo Lots of Filipino words are similar to Spanish but it seems that peoples always try to make things as simple as possible and spelling mistakes arise from this process.
I don't live far from Kew at all, we normally go in a few times a year, great place to spend the day.
Yeah I was aware of that, but the Tisoy-Tisay term appears to be specifically used for those with Fil-Am descent, I've always described my daughter as a Mestiza.
Also, the "Hey Joe" salutation was far too American for me. When I was backpacking in the Philippines, I always told the kids I am British and "Hey Joe" was only for Americans or "kano's".
Any white westerner is "Hey Joe" Im forever telling then NO not joe we are "Tommies" there is a big big difference .
Hindi ko Amerikano, ako ay Scottish. I learned that one a long long time ago Last time I used it was in the local 7/11 last Christmas when a bunch of kids came in and said hey look at the American (in Tagalog), the lad who then served me then asked me "sir you speak Tagalog" to which I replied "konti lang Tagalog", Google does not seem to translate that response well but I am told it means "just a little bit" they seem to take it that way anyway
Now how often was Braveheart the first reference that came to mind for Filipinos when you said you're Scottish?!
Well would of been deep in Barrio Season now if it wasn't for Covid. Milton Keynes, my nearest local Fiesta was due to begin again this year. I'm sure it'll be twice as big next year I hope!
