Dirty Harry will undoubtely see him as a threat to his long term longevity, so he may find a way to get bongbong disinterested in continuing the VP job...
He will probably start by neutralizing any old military and police personnel that still has some relevance

Marcos has NOT been elected as Vice President, Robredo will be the new Vice President. Marcos was, however, the most popular VP candidate amongst Filipinos who voted in the UK.

Presumptive president Rodrigo “Rody” Duterte on Monday revealed the names of the individuals he wants to be part of his administration.

Among the officials he mentioned is his running mate, Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano. He said he will ask Cayetano to choose between the Department of Foreign Affairs or the Justice Department or he may opt to stick to the Senate as he also respects that.

“You are my vice-president. Wala pa namang proclamation e,” Duterte said while asking Cayetano to join him in the press conference held at the Matina Enclave Clubhouse, Davao City.

Duterte also mentioned that he offered former vice presidential bet and former Securities and Exchange Commission Chair Perfecto Yasay to serve as the acting Foreign Affairs secretary for a year. He even asked Yasay to take a furlough in his teaching career at a university in Hawaii to serve for a year.

Under a Duterte presidency, the mayor said the Communist Party of the Philippines will be offered the Department of Agrarian Reform, Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Department of Labor and Employment or the Department Social Welfare and Development.

The presumptive president also named the top candidates for the Philippine National Police chief post, whom he asked to be “passionately against drugs.” These are Chief Superintendent Ronald Dela Rosa, Mimaropa police officer-in-charge Chief Superintendent Ramon Apolinario and chief of staff of the PNP Anti-Kidnapping Group Senior Superintendent Rene Aspera.

In choosing government officials in his administration, Duterte said he will choose on his own. He said he does not want any senator or solon calling him up with their recommendations.

Duterte also said he does not want favors for promotion or recommendation. “I hate 'yang tawagan. Ayaw ko 'yan kasi in all probability, hindi ka qualified,” he said.

“Do not get any recommendations from anybody, I will decide on my own. After all, if anything goes wrong, it is the president who will answer or bear the burden,” Duterte said.

Duterte said all applicants in bureaus and government corporations must agree to have their names published.

“'Yung lahat except for secretary or undersecretary, I'll get it from the younger generations,” he concluded.

The presumptive president mentioned that he will talk to Gilbert "Gibo" Teodoro Jr. for a possible Cabinet position. "I'm still awaiting for somebody to handle defense. Gibo Teodoro is coming. I'll talk to him later," he said.

The following are the prospective Cabinet members of Duterte:

    • Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano – Secretary of Justice/ Foreign Affairs

    • Perfecto Yasay – Acting Secretary of Foreign Affairs

    • Carlos “Sonny” Dominguez – Department of Finance

    • Chief Superintendent Ronald Dela Rosa, Mimaropa police officer-in-charge Chief Superintendent Ramon Apolinario and Chief of staff of the PNP Anti-Kidnapping Group Senior Superintendent Rene Aspera – PNP Chief

    • Art Tugade – Department of Transportation and Communications

    • Communist Party of the Philippines – Department of Agrarian Reform, Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Department of Labor and Employment or Department Social Welfare and Development.

    • Peter Laurel - Department of Education

    • Jesus Dureza - Peace Process

    • Bebot Bello - Peace Process (communist side)

    • Salvador Panelo - Presidential spokesperson

    • Salvador "Bingbong" Medialdea - Executive Secretary

Taken from the FB page of the Deputy Professor of Political Science at Ateneo:

    "
A land developer in DPWH, a Marcos sympathizer in DepEd, the lackey of Palparan and the jefe of the Hacienda Luisita massacre as AFP chief of staff, the guy Raul Roco hauled to the senate for conflict of interest in SEC regulations as acting DFA secretary, the lawyer of the Ampatuans as spokesperson. Then, somewhere there, you have Heneral Hello Garci lurking with at least one known conduit of Mike Arroyo's money. And the cherry on top: the Communists. And ya'll were bitching about Abaya?

I want to give this president a chance, but...."

Son of the man who built the windiest most convoluted expressway in history and then failed to get it finished. The C5 extension which was supposed to link to the coastal road and still doesn't, a road that winds back and forth through Manny Villar's land and properties in Paranaque.

The incoming Duterte administration is a GMA administration with bonus Laura Norder.

I will pass on a couple of comments from a news editor friend in Manila:

The most crucial appointment so far is that of defense chief. Esperon is a divisive choice and will unsettle the AFP. Gibo Teodoro is credible. But take note that he is the annointed successor of GMA in the 2010 election. Count his appointment as another favor for GMA.

It is imperative for Duterte to ensure that AFP is under his control before he issues the pardon on Arroyo. Thus the careful pick on the DND chief. The pardon will be highly divisive and will fracture the institutions.

I think its safe to say that Duterte hasn't persuaded the Manila intelligentsia. This used not to matter at all, but these days it does matter a bit, as the media are much freer than they were when the papers and the TV stations were controlled by wealthy hacienderos and there was nowhere else to go. Now, we have the social media, and we have online journalism with Rappler and Politiko, etc. This is a nation of 42 million Facebook users...

As my friend quoted above points out, Duterte absolutely must secure his control of the AFP before he issues the pardon that he has promised - and he must issue the pardon because it is now clear that he is surrounded by GMA people and his campaign was financed by GMA. He has two sorts of people in his Cabinet - old school and college friends and GMA people. If the two fall out, he will be in trouble.

I am sure, an accomplished and shrewd Lawyer and ex prosecutor like him, will find a way across the turbulent waters of Filipino politics, burying a few enemies along the way....
Regardless of what opinions we may or may not hold of him, he has been voted into the presidency with an astonishing mandate of support by the vast majority of the voters.
We should at least, recognise the achievement, and wish him good luck in this enterprise, and be wary of the fact that he may just be able to put a lot of things right, just because of his brash attitude and strong arm approach to a challenge.

Well, Dom, he has roughly the same level of support that Pnoy had - not an absolute majority because the 87 Constitution does not work that way. A Filipino Muslim friend of mine who voted for him and for Marcos pointed out that he is the first lawyer since Marcos senior to be elected President. I sarcastically remarked "You think that's a good thing?" but the irony was lost on him.

I find my Filipino Muslim friends very interesting because their view of "what's what" is so radically different from mine.

Mr Duterte is an honest genuine person
He puts the people of the Philippines as a priority.

So easy to put doubts on his intentions but let's at least see what he can or cannot do.

When listening to his statements of what he wants and what he expects he certainly doesn't shy away from controversy.
I believe he will either succeed in bringing some cultural development to the Philippines or die trying.

I think the figure of 42 million Filipino Facebook users is a bit of an exaggeration. That aside however, Duterte's electoral success does result from two relatively new innovations: his performances at all the televised Presidential Candidate debates and from well-organised online campaigns on Facebook, Twitter and elsewhere. His image of being a politically-incorrect strongman more than helped.

Your man, who is very much at home with the so-called "Manila intelligentsia" committed electoral suicide with his - and Aquino's - appalling and shameful handling of the Yolanda super-typhoon strikes and the Bohol/Cebu earthquakes that immediately preceded it. I am sorry, Andrew, but those of us who were in-country at the time witnessed the government's shameful response and Aquino's hiding behind the sofa in the Palace. Dutere sent several aid convoys to Cebu and Leyte but, unlike the relief sent from Manila, they did not contain supplies donated by fellow Filipinos and relabelled "Love from Rody Duterte".

    42 million Facebook users...???

    You are dreaming.

In my wife's family, in Pinas, there are 10 Facebook members.......... 7 of them under the age of 14..............

Your number may be correct as a running total, but it has no substance at all, if 2/3ds, are underage...
One only needs to have a quick look inside the various internet cafes or piso-piso ones... To see the true scale of underage membership.
