If he earns £16,000 pa maybe he could look at doing a part time job like a barman or something similar, he is only short of the financial requirement by £2,600

Alternatively he would require £22,500 in savings to meet the financial shortfall.

@simply_me in the short term, I'm sure you could get a visit visa if you just simply want to visit for a short time, that's what I did for my girlfriend.

Under no circumstances buy a plane ticket, buy one when the visa is granted only then.

You could put in prices you find, I have done this, just printed out the page, with detail of flights , lets say on your date of travelling and return dates.

, I would say 6months bank statements, which would prove they have enough money to fund your visit. Maybe if they have a savings account include aswell, normally they ask for 6months payslips, but not sure what you would do, as you say they are both retired.

in order to obtain a tourist visa the immigration authorities will need to be convinced that you intend to return to the Phils at the end of your stay. Evidence of that could include ownership of property or a full time job or university course you were enrolled in or kids being left behind in school. They will also want to see that you can support yourself in the trip.

The very best of luck to you both. It is very hard having a long distance relationship but what helps is the thought that one day there will be an end to it and the two of you will be together. keep thinking positively. Do you mind me asking what part of the phils you are? My fiancee is in davao.:)

When you put it like that @graham59, it's pretty sickening don't you think? Minimum wage is £7.50 (£7.83 from (some time in) 2018), so -

£7.50 x 37.5 (hours per week) x 52 (weeks per year) = £14,625... well below the 'poverty line' I'm guessing!!!

Agreed - I was just comparing life on the minimum wage with the 'minimum income' requirement for a Settlement Visa... no chance!
