The Government's advice is here: https://www.gov.uk/marriages-civil-partnerships/overview However I am unclear about the evidence of address, to be produced to the Registrar when giving notice of intention to marry - does this refer to the UK national or to both? Do I need to get K on a utility bill, etc?
You need her on utility bills and bank statements anyway. They will want to see those when applying for flr. Not sure with regards to marriage, but you should get this done asap.
I put my wife on the water bill as soon as she arrived, so that she could get a bank account. As soon as the bank account was opened I removed her from the water bill, so that we would no longer be linked financially with the Credit Reference Agencies. She can now use her bank statements as proof of address.
Good luck with getting "un-linked" with the credit reference scumbags. My Experian report still that my ex wife is "linked" to me despite divorce, decree absolute, letters, phone calls, etc!
Then check also Equifax and CallCredit files as well and send a 'Notice of Correction' to any credit reference agency that still show you as 'linked'. http://www.experian.co.uk/downloads/consumer/creditCrossroads/relationship.pdf
When you apply for flr2 you need to provide evidence that you live at the same address. I think it was 6 examples from 3 different sources, over a 2 year period if in joint names. If not in joint names you need 6 each showing you at the same address. It really is a good idea to get as many things as possible in joint names as you will need to provide this. We have our own seperate bank accounts, 2 joint bank accounts, a joint savings account, Gas/electric bill and council tax in both names, water bill in her name, phone bill in my name. You really will need this stuff.
This is taken directly from the application form: "Six items of correspondence addressed to you and your partner at the same address as evidence that you have been living together since your last grant of leave in this category, or from the date you first started living together up to a maximum of two years. See Note 9. Note 9 The items of correspondence should be addressed to you jointly or in both your names. Examples of acceptable items are listed below. The documents provided must be originals. Photocopies are not acceptable. The dates of the items of correspondence should be spread evenly over the whole 2 years. They should be from at least 3 different sources. If you do not have enough items in your joint names, you may also provide items addressed to each of you individually if they show the same address for both of you. For example - Four items of correspondence in joint names to the same address and two items addressed to each partner at the address. In total eight items would need to be submitted. If you and your partner have no bills or correspondence in joint names, you will need to submit twelve items (six each) of correspondence, evidencing that you reside together at the same address. If you and your partner lived with relatives or friends for some or all of the 2-year period, please provide a letter from the relative(s) and/or friend(s) confirming this. If you did not live together for any part of the 2-year period, tell us the reasons for this and whether you stayed in contact with each other during this time, and provide any relevant supporting evidence. Please give an explanation on a separate sheet if you cannot provide six items; if the items are not addressed to both of you; or if they do not cover the 2-year period."
Aplogies to Methersgate for side tracking things slightly. But, yes, you should get stuff put into joint names and get your wife's name on some utility bills.
i know we have to give 28 days notice at the local registry office--BUT--ALSO 28 days notice in southampton registry office--as she is non EEA. so--check with your local reg office.
That's right. You have to go to one of the specifically designated offices to give notice to marry. We had to go to Reading as our local one wasn't on the list. https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/224796/DROs_GOV_UK..pdf
That last information about 'joint address' info is very handy. I didn't realize the list of evidence was so lengthy or anal either. That's top of my list to sort out with 2 years to go until the first FLR now. Thanks.
I just got the missus to sign up for Tesco, Boots, COOP loyalty cards when she arrived in the UK, I've never put her name on any utility bills etc. After a while K will accrue plenty of correspondence that can be used for the FLR.
Just bear in mind bigmac that our notice to marry was extended because the local Registry Office sent the wives annulment documents to Head Office to be checked for some reason.
So you're considering renting out your ...? Let us know how it goes down the docks - all the nice boys love a sailor and all that.
This is the list of "examples" of acceptable forms of correspondence. Again, taken from the application form. As I see it, it's really important to get untity bills and bank statements in both names. "Examples of acceptable items of correspondence • Letters or other documents from government departments or agencies, for example HM Revenue and Customs, Department for Work and Pensions, DVLA, TV Licensing. • Letters or other documents from your GP, a hospital or other local health service about medical treatments, appointments, home visits or other medical matters • Bank statements/letters • Building society savings books/letters • Council tax bills or statements • Electricity and/or gas bills or statements • Water rates bills or statements • Mortgage statements/agreement • Tenancy agreement(s) • Telephone bills or statements"
Hi @Timmers, we've just been to Leeds registry to give notice, and was told that they will send my annulment papers to head office for verification, just wondering how long it takes to get a mail from them that my annulment papers have been verified? Our provisional wedding date is 1st Oct and now we are not sure if we can go ahead.
I see that happened to Timmers as well. I assume "Head Office" means the County Head Office. We found that the Registrars are very very careful
