Get Netfix and watch the Korean stuff.

Apparently all these dramas are shown in the Philippines dubbed into Tagalog. Mrs M loves 'em.

Hope it's better than the recent Filipino movie we watched. We watched Ang Panday (2009) with subtitles. It was so amazingly bad, it was almost a comedy without meaning to be. Even more amusing it was voted best picture and best actor in the Manila film festival, which makes one wonder exactly what drugs the panel were on at the time.

Is that the one with all the flying dragons and stuff?

We watched Panday 2 at the cinema in Manilla once.

Yeah there's a flying dragon and the main hero called Flavio looked like a halfwit and had a sword that started off very short but then grew longer in an unsettlingly phallic manner.
There was a crazy bald villain called Lizardo sporting a maniacal laugh and a very long tongue that must have made him a hit with ladies, and an intensely annoying small child with a whiny coice who shouted 'Flavio' a lot and who sadly didn't get blown away.

Even with a fair few beers it was still awful. Even the kids wanted to turn it off. Let's just say it was an experience. I just suggested to my wife that we watch 'ang panday 2' on our movie night this Friday. I suppose it makes a change from having the American hero save the world again.

Try it without subtitles if you think it's bad! I seem to remember my kids actually quite enjoyed it! Although they were a lot younger then.

I'll let you know what we thought of it. My wife says that the independent films are a lot better. We saw a couple of independent films that weren't half bad. One was called 'Metro Manila' and one called 'Closer to Home'. I recommend them both.

We got Metro Manilla on DVD. Yeah, it's pretty good (for a Filipino film!).

Another film I remember seing at the cinema there was 'Amigo', which was about the Philippines/American war. I seem to remember it wasn't bad.

Seen Metro Manila and enjoyed it. Will have a gander for Closer to Home. Cheers.

It amuses me that the film Metro Manila crops up when we discuss films from the Philippines, anyone would think that Metro Manila is the only half decent film to come out of the Philippines.

The girls from the Philippines travel a lot better than their films :)

There are a lot of good Tagalog films out there believe it or not...Problem is if you cannot understand Tagalog,I cannot prove that to you so its a waste of time posting links!

It's probably because it is a rare example of a Filipino film that was actually released and is available in the UK.

She Who Must be Obeyed used to manage extras in the Filipino move business. She is absolutely scathing about their poor dialogue, weak production values, etc., and has shown no interest at all in watching Filipino movies or TV since she came here!
