The 2014 Miss Universe competition officially gets under way in Miami on 21st January with contestants from 90 countries taking part. The Philippines is represented by 27 year old Mary Jean Lastimosa: Miss Lastimosa, who is 5' 7" tall, originates from Tulunan, North Cotobato, Mindanao, but now lives in Davao City where she owns a fitness centre and spa. She's a graduate in Computer Engineering from the University of Mindanao. Great Britain is represented by 25 year old Grace Levy who hails from London: Grace who is 5' 11½" tall, took part in the TV dating show "Take Me Out" and went on a date with a fire-dancing hippie with waist-length dreadlocks. The relationship didn't work out as her date, who worked for Greenpeace and had changed his name to Peace, only washed his hair once every three months . The pageant's finals will be held on 25th January at the Arena of the Florida International University on Southwest 8th Street, Miami.
Not my cup of tea either, and neither are these pageants but our Philippine friends and family do love their pageants don't they.
From a purely aesthetic viewpoint (as a photographer) this lassie is even less appealing than the first two. I fundamentally dislike being put in the position that this kind of competition puts one in, where the response has to be intrinsically based on personal taste, I would never judge a real girl on such shallow criteria but these competitions turn them into plastic dolls and it is just horrible.
In general I tend to agree, Jim, though you're a hard man to please! Regarding your second point, I think that Julia Morley has made the Miss World pageant into something more than a (physical) beauty contest - no swimsuit round as of this year. Incidentally, Manny Pacquiao is supposed to be one of the Miss Universe judges this year.
Frankly, I see better looking lasses walking down the street. Matter of personal taste I suppose. Al.
My missus looks at these women and says she wishes she looked like them. Personally I reckon she's better looking than any of them, and I'm not even kidding when I say that. All that over done make up! Yuk.
Not entirely true! Lots of them bashed our gorgeous candidate Maxine medina as if they are any better!
My own highlight from Miss Universe (actually, it was the only bit I saw because my missus showed me it!) was when Miss Venezuela pulled off her overskirt and accidentally untied her bikini bottom too.
Yeah. Bikini. My typing is appalling I'm afraid. It was a great moment, and apparently edied out of any repeat showings. I don't really understand why Filipino women are so into Miss Universe. It's a load of old nonsense really, and all the wome look the same. Plus Miss Venezuela was eliminated early, and she quickly became my personal favourite!!
