    Hello all.
I am now in Manila and have obtained permission to marry from the British embassy.
Our wedding date is fixed for the 17th of February.
The next step is submitting the application for my beloved's Spouse Visa, for which we are just about ready.

I have a couple of questions regarding this.

    1. Does she require a security clearance of any sort?
    2. In our letters of support, is it sufficient for her to write a brief covering letter supporting her application. And one comprehensive letter from myself, in support.

    Thanks for any advice.

    Martin.

I've not known anyone who applied for spouse vise who needs security clearance of any sort.

In your cover letters make sure it broadly agree on facts (how and when you met), how you kept in touch when you were apart, your marriage, plans for the future and things like that. Many samples of cover letters are posted in this forum so you can check it out.

By the way congratulations on your impending wedding. Best wishes :)

    All looks good :like:

For the accommodation just ensure the contract stating it is free also has a duration longer than six months ideally if Martins live-in status works that way? Or if he has a contractually stated period of employment. As the ECO could potentially think if he left the position in say 2 months time, there is no accommodation provision.
I'm sure your paperwork probably accounts for this though.

And numbers 12 and 13,that's the first time I've ever seen vehicles included in an application here :D:like:

    Hi Joshua.
Thanks for your prompt reply. Just to clarify the point about the accommodation, I have been at that job and address since 2007 for 10 years. In 2013 the lady I worked for died and the trustees asked me to stay on and look after the property. My current employer bought the property in 2014 and asked me to stay on and work for the family. He states this in his letter.
In the contract the probationary period is 6 months. That period expired nearly two years ago and so the usual months notice from either party applies. I'm not on a fixed length contract in other words.
    Hope this clarifies my position.

    Kind regards,

    Martin.

Joshua, regarding the cars and agreed valuations for them, I'm including them to prove to the ECO I have additional finances in that form. Every little helps I guess.

    congratulations on getting married.

as regards the visa application--heres my thoughts.
i think your giving too much unnecessary information.
    e.g
jonaglen #18----contract of emplyment --?? do you mean present job in philis ?--or a future job in the UK---?

your sponsorship. mainly consists of providing suitable accommodation---and meeting the financial requirement.

benefits in kind with your job are irrelevant and should be omitted.

you need to provide some sort of tenancy agreement--maybe including a property inspection report if its shared. written agreement that your wife is permitted to lawfully occupy--for the remaining term--which should be for 6 months.

your financial requirement. does your salary meet it--or will you need to combine it with your pension. you need to show this. if its short of the requirement--you can combine it with savings--but they need to meet the criteria.
must be cash savings with instant access and held for 6 months. stocks , shares, other non-cash assets--( cars ) dont count and should be omitted.

    good luck !

Many unnecessary documents. If you meet the financial requirement with your job alone then don't include other stuff like pension and savings, I know it helps to show that you have a lot to offer but the ECO is not interested on that, as long as the financial requirement is met then you're good to go.

I'm quite concerned with the love letter I hope it's not too emotional and long. Make it straightforward and to the point.

    Hi Martin,

Thanks for your replies too and the extra info. Makes sense about your fine motors now! Although if you're meeting the financial requirements from your salary, and I'm assuming you do as you've listed 6 months of pay slips and bank statements, as Brom and bigmac indicated you won't need extra documents in this area.

Your accommodation makes perfect sense, unfortunately yes you're subject to a month's notice to leave your job and thus accommodation. It's a unique situation and I'm not sure what you could do, except perhaps a letter from the employer stating the history you outlined and maybe emphasise that no change is envisaged for the next 6 months, something like that.

Just a thought :) I'd also second the good advice from bigmac and Brom above :like:

I would look to put them in an order that puts two of the same in the numerical order ie His Birth certificate, then hers, his passport then hers, marriage certificate etc, when we submitted ours we put it into three sections 1.Application,2.Finance 3.Social including accomadation.
Every applicant has there own ideas though

Hi all, and many thanks again for all your good advice.
Taking it into account, I'm happy with what Jo and I will submit.
The letter from my boss and his wife state they are happy for Jo to live with me in the accommodation.
Reference the job and notice period, all occupations have the possibilities of negative fallout. Even people who have a mortgage can suddenly lose their job, so no one is safe from losing the roof over their head. Anyone renting for example, can have their landlord suddenly deciding to sell the property.
We expect to have the marriage certificate within the next 4 weeks, and then Jo will submit the application.

I'll post again on here when we get the result of the application.

Thanks again everyone for the helpful advice.

    My best,

    Martin.

    One last question, I hope!

The SU07 form. To whom does this apply?
  14. Brom27
    Offline

    Brom27 Well-Known Member Trusted Member

The SU07 or Sponsorship Undertaking is mainly for family bringing a relative over to the UK like mother or grandmother etc..

If you visit the gov.uk portal what they say about this form will be like this:

    Details
Use ‘Form SU07’ to support the application of a person who is applying to come to the UK to visit or settle.

This form is to confirm that you will be responsible for the applicant’s maintenance, accommodation and care, without relying on public funds:

    • for at least 5 years, if they are applying to settle
    • throughout their stay in the UK, if they are applying to visit

That's why some people applying for fiance or spouse visa includes this form when submitting the documents. I did include one myself. It doesn't hurt. But this is not a requirement. People have been approved with their visas without this. :)

Congrats and yes your right no one's job is guaranteed these days - however not many people get free accommodation with their job.

In your shoes I'd try to get a letter from a family member or friend offering you alternative "adequate" accommodation in the event that you become unable to work or lose your job during the next six months and submit that too.

    Hi again all,

My wife is ready to apply for her visa, but has asked me if she needs a letter of support from me.
We both have written our respective love stories.

The love story you wrote should be the letter of support. The letter you should make shouldn't just be all about your love story. In that letter, include that you are going to support her and accommodate her. Talk about how you felt when you were apart. Your shared interests, plan for the future etc.

Talk about how you have missed each other, what complete and utter nonsense!
