My husband and I are looking to visit Amsterdam in the next month or so. I read this on the VFS Global website:

EEA/EU AND SWISS NATIONAL FAMILY MEMBER

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Family members of an EU/EEA National in possession of a valid UK Residence Permit, which states explicitly: “Residence card of a family member of an EEA national” or a “Permanent residence card”, do not require a visa to enter Netherlands if traveling with or intending to join the EEA family member.. If the person travels without the family member, they would be required to apply under the Tourist visa category and provide all of the required documentation for the same, and would be required to pay the visa fee in addition to the service charge.

Does the above mean that I am not required to have a visa and can just present my BRP?

    Appreciate the help! Thanks!

Unfortunately our visa states "Spouse/Partner Leave to Remain" . This statement will only be found to partners of EU residents living in the UK “Residence card of a family member of an EEA national”.

That's why we need to apply for a visa to travel to an EU country but we can get it for free and our application is fast tracked. :)

We successfully applied for Schengen visas twice a few years ago. Once to Spain and once to Portugal on separate occasions. We were out of pocket as there was a small processing fee and in both cases required a journey, once to London and once to Manchester. I would not describe it as a formality.

Fortunately my wife has a British passport now and we do not have to go through that Schengen shenanigans anymore.

Hi @firew0myn , where did you apply for Netherlands visa? Do they have office in Manchester or I have to travel to London? Pleas if you could post the link on how to apply for Schengen visa. Many thanks!
