And a very interesting response from the current Republican President and those too from bygone days. How many more days before Trump ends up like some of the Confederate statues in the USA?

I've probably missed something in all this but why are they pulling down the statues of Confederate Generals ??

Is it because the south supported slavery ?

Which anti Trump campaigner penned these lyrics? Trump next.

We are searchlights, we can see in the dark
We are rockets, pointed up at the stars
We are billions of beautiful hearts
And you sold us down the river too far

    What about us?
What about all the times you said you had the answers?
    What about us?
What about all the broken happy ever afters
    What about us?
What about all the plans that ended in disaster?
What about love? What about trust?
    What about us?

We are problems that want to be solved
We are children that need to be loved
We were willing, we came when you called
But man you fooled us, enough is enough

    What about us?
What about all the times you said you had the answers?
    What about us?
What about all the broken happy ever afters?
    What about us?
What about all the plans that ended in disaster?
What about love? What about trust?
    What about us?

    What about us?
What about all the plans that ended in disaster?
What about love? What about trust?
    What about us?

Sticks and stones they may break these bones
But then I'll be ready, are you ready?
It's the start of us, waking up, come on
Are you ready? I'll be ready
I don't want control, I want to let go
Are you ready? I'll be ready
Cause now it's time to let them know
    We are ready

    What about...
    What about us?
What about all the times you said you had the answers?
    So what about us?
What about all the broken happy ever afters?
    What about us?
What about all the plans that ended in disaster?
What about love? What about trust?
    What about us?

    What about us?
    What about us?
    What about us?

    What about us?
    What about us?
    What about us?

So, any bets on when exactly Trump will be toppled? Before or after which Confederate Generals statue?

Thomas Jefferson and George Washington were both slave owners...As Trump said,do they want to completely delete history and pull down their statues too?

Agreed. Well hopefully that will not happen. Or you might have said just after WWIII.

    Rewriting history, so dangerous.

I used to watch the Dukes of Hazzard, "good old boys" with a confederate flag painted on the top of their car, now I guess that would not be allowed.

I feel sorry for the locals, of whatever race and culture, who are seeing their history destroyed and replaced by a totally false "politically correct" agenda.

Trump will go before full blown civil war occurs. He is teetering already. He seems to have hit the self destruct button.

My best friend now lives in Charlottesville and she says that there are confrontation every now and then but its back to normal day today life unlike last Saturday where it was unstable.

People have short memory. Just 70 years ago, a lot of their young men have sacrificed their lives on the shores not their own to fight the nazi during WW2.

And now there are people (very few of them) who glorify what it stands.

Most Confederate statues were erected by The United Daughters of the Confederacy who who were only formed at the turn of the 20th century. Almost none of the monuments were put up right after the Civil War. Some were erected during the civil rights era of the early 1960s, which coincided with the war’s centennial, but the vast majority of monuments date to between 1895 and World War I. They were part of a campaign to paint the Southern cause in the Civil War as just and slavery as a benevolent institution, and their installation came against a backdrop of Jim Crow violence and oppression of African Americans. The monuments were put up as explicit symbols of white supremacy.

This is not about history being destroyed, you cannot destroy history, only rewrite it. The confederacy was an attempt by the south to separate from the USA in order that they could preserve slavery. They lost the civil war they started. The confederate flag is not like a state flag of which you see many in the US next to the stars and stripes, its more like a swastika in what it represented. Slavery and the subjugation of black people. Lets not forget the 100 plus years of Jim Crow that followed also where black people had to eat live drink and learn separately from white people.

I am in the states at the moment and am trying to get support for statues of George III to be erected. Not much interest so far.

Here is another interesting video clip on reckoning with the past in Germany. A lesson for the USA?

Destroy history, rewrite history, what is the difference?
