    I just don't 'get' twitter.

Can anyone tell me why it's worth posting on there... to a world of strangers... or 'following' famous people, like a blinkin stalker ?

I guess it's whatever floats your boat. A colleague in work is LFC mad (I know I don't get it either :) ) but during transfer period he gets the news quicker than traditional channels, Sky Sports news for example. I have Twitter for following the F1 info, 'straight from the horses mouth,' if you will. You can shape the received data how you wish, by following those that provide the most pertinent information that you desire.

Regards posting, infrequently do I do that, more inclined to re-tweet than post.

The visual equivalent, Instagram, I do use and post every now and again when in the mood.

    WHY ?

To show those that I know (my account is private) what I'm up too, maybe if we are visiting somewhere or a pic of the kids playing, a party, nice scenic view, whatever takes my fancy.

    Do you use FB?

Yes, I can understand that (sharing pics with friends), but I suppose for me it would simply duplicate what I already have on Facebook... where one can also decide who is able to view them. :like:

Yep true and I only add people on Instagram that I would share my pics with anyway. Im not so social on social media tbh just a handful of followers on there. I follow on twitter opposed to being followed, who wants to hear me talking twaddle (yes i do enough of that here). I don’t do FB, full of adverts now and a bit intrusive for me.

    Ok... got ya.

On Facebook.... simply get the F.B. Purity add-on for your browser.... and apart from lots of other customising it lets you do...(weeding out unwanted notifications , etc)... NO MORE ADS. :like:

I personally don’t do FB but I have used it for advertising business in the Philippines. It is a very powerful marketing tool. Paid FB services are very impressive.

Yea understood. I should have been more specific, it is the fake news, it annoys me.

There are other advertising techniques on FB I dont like, I dont know the correct terminology but is where an article that entices you to click the link with false cues. After clicking it is just meaningless trash.

The other is where somebody shares something daft like, drink green tea and you will never get cancer or something to that effect, it pisses me off that there is someone clicking that blatantly obvious misleading cue.

Not really a problem at all on my FB page.

You really can get rid of the majority of that crap, using F.B.Purity. Give it a go. :)

Yep I couldn’t recollect as I typed but yes clickbait and it’s bloody annoying though not just FB is guilty of it, it’s all over the show.

Facebook utterly rapes your privacy and yes I know I should be PC with that word but it is an appropriate description for what they do with your information, Facebook cross mines data from many many sources they are effectively listening in on everything you do anywhere, even if you think you are anonymous they will make connections with other people that you actually do know, they don't have my real name but they can still work out who I know and while I have an account and I don't use it outside a strictly controlled group of people, they still make connections that I don't want.

I am on other social media but none of the others are as intrusive as Facebook, I only signed up for Facebook because my eldest daughter asked me to around 10 or 12 years ago.

Fair enough. I depends upon one's circumstances I suppose.

I'm satisfied with my privacy settings on Facebook... and elsewhere. Mined info these sites have on me, I really couldn't care less. Life is too short for me to get paranoid about the internet. Nothing to hide anyway. :like:

Who knows how our data is used but it is used and it is sold over and over, it is one of their revenue streams, and what do you do when the data they have gathered is just simply wrong?

Here at least you might have a chance of putting it right but in other countries who knows, information is power false information is even more powerful in the wrong hands.
