I frequent another forum (Sailing) and we have a map to mark where everybody lives.

Also those who want to, say where they live in their Avatar. For example I would say David of Mersea, and underneath Colchester

    Could this be adopted here?

I, and it looks like many others, have not come across it, it needs to be more conspicuous

To me it looks just as conspicuous as evey other item on the members list. As you know, many newbies dont hang around that long (the nature of the subject) so adding their location isnt always their priority and we don’t enforce.

I was not suggesting enforcement, just the option, and also adding the home town in the Avatar would not show the number of Newbies that do not hang around long.

As you say "many newbies dont hang around that long (the nature of the subject)", which is something I understand. However I can't help thinking that people from the Philippines would still like to keep in touch with each other after they have sorted out their visa and other documents ... My GF has a circle of other well established Filipino friends who meet and have Filipino meals and other meetings and events together.

I am a newby and I don't want to be critical of those who voluntarily manage this forum, but I can't help wondering if this forum is not as user friendly as it might be, and this might be part of the reason that many newbies dont hang around that long ..... What do others think?

quite a few members have met up at the various barrio festivals up and down the country. i think member @Methersgate is in your part of the world--and sails.

OK, let me make a positive suggestion. What about having just two forums, one headed "Visas and other Documents", and the other forum just called something simple like "Other matters".

I think I met methersgate at a meeting of the sailing forum members two weeks ago

Fair comments and they are appreciated. There is a big subject in regards to the pros and cons of user data which I dont want to go into. Each forum has its own reasons for its particular set up and obviously that is down to the admins of that particular site.

Users have no problems continuing relationships both on this forum and after. We have members who dont actively contribute here but are friends on facebook although they struck up their initial relationships here, which is a positive for those who have newly landed in the UK.

I think most of us want our respective partners to have friends from their home land once they get to the UK, if the forum assists that then it has served a positive purpose.

The actual forum software is called Xenforo and it is one of the best out there (IMO :) ). One can add additional features to the forum, in fact I know of one that springs to mind and that is a national flag of the member showing within their profile, determined by IP address.

Again we try not to impose on members and let sensible information flow. We are relaxed in our approach and the forum ultimately exists due to our founder member Kuya who is unfortunately no longer with us.

We are advert free unlike a lot of forums and dont ask for donations. The admins are under no obligation to contribute financially either, they do it because they want to, me included.

Our aim is to provide a decent mechanism were people help like minded people who require assistance and of course anything British Filipino related all in between.

Again your comments are most welcome and appreciated :like:
