    Good Morning,
I want to apply for a certificate of entitlement for my newborn.
She now has a PH passport.
    I get here https://www.gov.uk/right-of-abode/apply-for-a-certificate-of-entitlement
I scroll down to where it says "Apply from Outside the Uk"
Next is...You must apply online using the ‘Apply for a UK visa’ service.
Which I click and then it takes me to the Apply for a UK Visa page.
Nowhere does it say Apply for "certificate of entitlement"
What do i do next ? Thanks

I am at a loss to understand why you should wish to apply for this when the baby is entitled to a British Passport. Both take about the same length of time to process. Both have similar documentary requirements but the Certificate of Entitlement costs considerably more than a Passport - and has to be re-applied for upon each foreign Passport renewal.

Hi, if I apply for a uk passport whilst in the Philippines for the newborn, it will take 1 year. So, rather than wait 1 year i will apply for a certificate of entitlement which takes 2 months to process and allows my child to travel to the uk on her PH passport without the 1 year wait or having to apply for a visa. When in the UK i will apply for a UK passport. Saves time. My problem is our confusing gov.uk website.

as i said, that is what i did but i keep going back to the apply for a visa page.
Big mac are you saying do this?
    Apply from outside the UK
You must apply online using the ‘Apply for a UK visa’ service.

A certificate of entitlement costs £423 outside the UK.

If so, i do that and it asks me what kind of visa i wish to apply for with no option of certificate of entitlement

Hi, I applied for my sons british passport last year from the Philippines and it just under 4 months and cost less than £100. It shouldn't take a year as long as you have everything in order

A child's first British Passport needs to be applied for outside the United Kingdom. I agree that Passport issuing times for overseas applicants became newsworthy a year or so ago because there were often very lengthy delays. This is no longer the case and new Passp0orts should be released within three to four months - provided the application is complete in every respect - and that's about the same length of time as a C of E.

In a word, yes. You do not need a Certificate of Entitlement, it is a complete and utter waste of money; a Passport serves the same purpose and more.

For applications originating in the Philippines, the Passport Fee is £53 plus there's a courier charge of £19.86 making a total prepayment of £72.86 which, I'm sure you'll agree, is less that £100. A Certificate of Entitlement costs (almost) six times more.

The application will need to be countersigned by a British Passport holder who has known you personally for a number of years and who is a professional - a solicitor, accountant, surveyor, doctor etc., and you will need to courier the entire application package to that person so that they can countersign the application and authenticate the baby's photograph; you should include a large, addressed envelope as these applications go to a special processing centre in Durham and not to any of the listed Passport Office addresses. In my case, my solicitor required to see each child and she did this using Skype.

An adult's Passport last ten years and costs almost £80. A child's Passport issued in the UK costs £46-ish (£53 for Philippine applications) but lasts only 5 years.

Yea situations are the same, married to filipina with two children and both have British and Philippine passports. We got my sons one last year, my wife arranged the papers there including photos and application countersigned and I arranged what was needed here. Then she sent all to me which i sent up to Liverpool. I had to go for a local interview here which was no problem and quite standard procedure now but all took less than 4 months. Never even looked at getting a certificate to be honest. The best thing would be to get a passport I think
