When my wife travelled to the UK for the first time back in 2009, we stopped over in Bangkok for a few days and she absolutely loved the spicy Thai food. When we ate in the food courts in the Philippines, we always used to ask for chillies to go with the pancit canton and other dishes. Chillies are everywhere in the Philippines if people want to eat spicy food. We all know that the Chinese have influenced Filipino food in a big way.

My wife loves Nandos too. She has the hottest sauce they can give her, with additional hot hot sauce as well. Yes she loves hot food, including curry, which she cooks amazingly well.

Ah, that’s interesting as my gf has the milder Nando’s sauces.

Well, I doubt that 10 posts saying that Filipinos like hot spicy foods will make my Mrs like them, but, there you go. :like:

very rare that Philippines Filipinos, as it were, who only know the Philippines and no other country, like the really hottest Indian curries. I would be lucky to even get them to mumble approval at the most insipid Kurma.

but when they have spent time in the Middle East as OFW's then that may well change things. There is a lot of Indians there, also OFW's. They can get exposed to Indian culinary conventions.

one girl I knew, had spent time in Kuwait or Saudi or somewhere in the house of an Indian family of a white-collar professional/managerial OFW, and she learned to do it they way they liked. She could literally blow the roof off in the kitchen with the spicy curries. It was scary. Even I hesitated to walk in there. In fact I said to her, that isn't a kitchen. It's an incendiary bomb factory.

On ignore.... though I'm sure it was a fascinating lecture. :)

Well, slightly off topic but I visited a place in Manchester the other week serving “tru street food” as they call it. It was a form of Pan Asian themed menu and on it was Jamabalaya. I have had Jambalaya before in Texas which I had always thoroughly enjoyed but on this occasion there was extra gunpowder in it or something as it blew my head off. I had to plead with the waiter for a glass of milk to help me along.

It doesn’t get a lot of good reviews in Trip Advisor but it is always busy whenever I have been there or been passing by.
