    Hi everyone!

I live in north west London (Harrow) and am looking for someone to help me learn the Tagalog language. Does anyone know someone who can help? I will pay for their time of course.

    Many thanks!

No idea where you can find a tutor. Someone who speaks the language (even natively) won't necessarily be a good teacher.

I used the Pimsleur Tagalog audiobooks using Amazon's Audible app
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Tagalog-Pha..._UL160_SR160,160_&refRID=0XE9VNQGTMJGVDVD2Y3C

You can also download it from various torrent sites.

I did one unit every evening over the course of a month or so. You can repeat the units at your leisure if it didn't sink in first time around.

I knew a minimal amount of Tagalog beforehand. I found Pimsleur to be really quite good. I'm able to rattle off several sentences quite easily. The downside is when people speak back in Tagalog and you are left guessing as to what they've said. Also, because you don't see the written word, you will sometimes imagine a word is spelled completely differently.

When you get a basic understanding of the framework of Tagalog, Google Translate is a useful way to expand your vocabulary.

Although I haven't mastered Tagalog anywhere to the level that I have with French, my impression is that Tagalog is quite a simple language to pick up if you put in the effort. I think that many middle class Filipinos use Tag-lish simply because Tagalog doesn't have the same depth as the English, French or Spanish languages.

I have to declare a personal interest here when I post this link

this lad is a friend of mine, I have not taken his course but I have watched him speak to Filipino's often over the last eight years both in a work environment and social environment.

While he is not in England he does have a beginners 5 day email programme which is free and might be worth a shot.

He is also fluent in French.

My wife speaks Tagalog and Cebuano but will only help me a little bit as she wants to speak in English all the time except when on the phone to her mum.

I know where Harrow is. Hahaha...

I work part-time as an English-Tagalog translator, though I don't know how good I can be as a language teacher.

I'll do it for fun and a bit of money.

    I'm from East London.
