A 73-year-old civil leader has raised eyebrows in his home town after marrying a Filipino bride four decades his junior.

Widower Kit Owen - the deputy-mayor of March in Cambridgeshire - admits met his wife, Aiza, 'on the internet, of course'.

The couple were married today after two years of courting, Mr Owen wouldn't reveal his wife's age but did say she is in her thirties.
He said: 'After getting on so well over FaceTime and Whatsapp, it seemed it was time for me to go and meet her in person.'

After a year without seeing each other in the flesh, Kit travelled to the Philippines where he met Aiza in real life and spent time with her family and friends.

Kit 'can't remember' how he proposed but says that the couple are very happy.

The pair were married in Kit's home town where he has been mayor five times, at a register office before going on to a reception at Ye Olde Griffin Hotel.

Photographers were trying to get snapshots of the couple's happy day but Kit said they dealt with that by pulling the curtains on them.

So the four decades in one report becomes five decades in the URL :D

It's his business, I have grave doubts that I will ever reach that age but if I did I would be acutely aware of the very likely limited time ahead of me, if he provides for the lassie's future then good on him, if he hasn't then he's likely using her be it for affection or companionship or something else.

Many of us here have age gaps that are large, I'm 14 years older than Ana, I just watched a documentary on Les Dawson a few minutes ago a man who found happiness again in later life after his first wife died when he married a girl 17 years his junior, a very moving and sad story but at least they got about 4 years together, hell of a funny programme as well :D

I'm nearly 60 I think no differently to the 30 year old I once was, I have no more confidence or authority in my views or my person than I had 40 years ago as a 20 year old, I don't feel that different to the boy I once was, my father on the other hand was much more worn out mentally by the time he reached 60, self inflicted, but still worn out, he was not possessed of the mind he had when I was a child, not dementia, just run down.

What a person looks like on the outside and their age does not mean that they are so far from the young person they once were these days, there are practical physical issues and realities that need to be addressed in a relationship that has that kind of age disparity but that is a subject for both parties in the relationship and no one else.

Yeah the jealous wrinkly old British fatarses will hate the man for pursuing some perfectly legal and normal happiness in his later years.

I used to love telling the locals back in sniffy old England about my young bride... just to see the distaste on their silly narrow-minded faces. :D

It is a shame what gets people (trolls) wound up nowadays. If the guy had dumped his wife and abandoned his children, perhaps he is worthy of scorn and ridicule

As it is, the poor chap is over 10 years a widow. Who wouldn't begrudge him this?

I suppose some of the comments could have been worse, but still sad that some people posting with their true identity take jabs at the new couple

From afar, I offer my sincere best wishes to him. I hope his twilight years are made happier and his kitchen is full of stinky garlic and chilli sauces that I thought mankind would never eat.

When you get old in the UK you are supposed to STFU, live in a home for OAP`s and eat porridge.
