Hey guys! I was wondering if any of you may be able to help me. I’m eligible for Filipino dual citizenship through jus sanguinis and have all the correct documents but I was wondering where am I to submit my application. I live in Scotland and would like to know if I’m able to visit the embassy in London to receive citizenship, and if not where would I apply? Also, does anyone know how long the process takes? Thanks for the help!
The relevant act is RA 9225 and you should use the Retention / Reacquisition of Philippine Citizenship process detailed here :- http://www.londonpe.dfa.gov.ph/consular-matters/retention-reacquisition-of-philippine-citizenship So yes you will have to visit London at some point, there is a consulate in Edinburgh but I don't think you can go through the process there. And from the instructions it would appear that the whole process will be completed in one visit to the Embassy.
It is worth checking the consular outreach programme, https://renewphilippinepassport.com/philippine-consular-outreach-schedule-in-united-kingdom-uk/ Dual citizenship is one of the consular services provided, it might be worth phoning the London Embassy to confirm that you have everything needed and to ask if you can definitely do it at one of the outreach appointments. Where are you in Scotland? I'm from the West Coast originally but I live in England now. Quoted from the above link :- This is the latest Consular Outreach Schedule in United Kingdom (UK). Philippine Embassy in London Dublin: January 19 – 20, 2019 Isle of Man: February 2, 2019 Manchester: February 9, 2019 Aberdeen: March 23, 2019 Dublin: April 27 – 28, 2019 Plymouth: May 25, 2019 Dublin: July 6 – 7, 2019 Swansea: September 14, 2019 Liverpool: October 12, 2019 Dublin: November 17 -18, 2019 Note: Applicants should provide their own self-addressed envelope for the return of their documents. Postage costs may be paid at the Outreach.
You have to apply for Recognition as a Filipino citizen not Retention / Re acquisition. http://immigration.gov.ph/index.php...nd-aquisition/recognition-as-filipino-citizen
Yes, I went through the (Recognition) process on behalf of my British-born son from my first marriage, when we were living in the Phils many years ago. He now has a certificate to that effect. Yes, you can of course do this when in the Philippines also. Make sure you have all the correct docs to hand though... especially your birth certificate, and an authenticated copy of your mother's. Details on the Phils govt website.
