    Depends to what degree they x-ray Balikbayan boxes, and I don't know how dense gold is under x-ray but it is going to be circles or bars, lumps might be even more suspicious :)

    People have problems with Balikbayan boxes too.

    Matt Wilkie has been living in Spain for a few years I believe.
    I respect the guy because he is a trier..
    He may not have been successful in the R.P but at least he was wise enough not to move his family back to the UK.

    I'm talking about stuff people ALREADY own (and have already paid for ! ) in the UK.... that could go into Balikbayan boxes. :like:

    Most British guys have larger feet than are readily available LOCALLY in the Phils.

    I take size 11s ...wide fit . Not many of those down your local mall in the provinces. Yes, I did bring my Clarks ones. Unbeatable for quality and value, I reckon. :)

    Bicycles, just one of those things again, that are SIZE-related. I'm 6'1". The one I had in the UK fitted me correctly, was top quality, and was PAID FOR...years ago.

    I'm also glad I brought my two Xboxes.... plus all the games and accessories (steering wheels, etc) , plus lots of UK adaptors and extension leads to plug them and other stuff with 3 pin (fused !) plugs into. :like: Need to remember to buy some spare fuses in different sizes too. Cost pennies, and take up no space.

    This is a whole interesting subject. :geek:

    True that.
    Family sent me a 150 Quid petrol mower 8 years ago.. Still works OK.
    They also sent me a second hand flymo with the grass collector box. Still works OK.
    Ive bought about 5 expensive strimmers here but never again..They break in under a year.
    Just bought a second hand Murray ride on.. One of the yanks here cut it into 3 pieces in the states and packed it into BB boxes. Welded it back together here.
    Just before he left,he sold it to me.
    What a difference!! I now cut the grass in under an hour.

    Mentioning secondhand....

    When I was coming here 3 or 4 times a year, I'd scout around the charity shops in the UK, and buy for peanuts lots of good quality items, so useful here in PI, Even clothes and toys,DVDs, etc. Rich Brits just discard perfectly good stuff, because they fancy a change or an upgrade. Bung it in a Balikbayan box, or checked-in baggage ! :like:

    It's no secret why the ukay ukay trade is so brisk here in the Phils.:cool:

    Yeah I know you mean stuff people have already in the UK, it was just that you regretted not taking the grill and couldn't find one there.

    I agree with all the things you said, I'm going to have a load of stuff to send as well, but some stuff is available there too.

    Regards size, my son is 5' 11" now (age 13), and his bike is fine for him fits properly with some leeway for adjustment, shoes well I've already move a lot of shoes over there but they don't seem to do too well in storage there I think the humidity helps the leather to rot if they are not regularly polished. There will come a time soon when I buy two sets every time I replace shoes in the UK and take one set out with me on the next trip to leave there, it's hard enough getting a wide fitting here as even Clarks only provide a limited range in H fitting.

    Regards extension leads with 4 and 6 way outlets I've taken a lot out, the UK ones last better than the locally sourced ones that support all plug types and the spacing on the UK ones mean that you can actually use all the ports whereas the local ones are often too close together to allow you to plug in some power adapters side by side.

    Fuses are another matter our place is fitted with RCD's all the wall sockets are two pin non grounded, I think there is only one earthed socket in the house for the aircon in the bedroom and I would not bet that the earth is actually earthed :) I took a couple of packets of fuses over there but I've never had to use one.

    On a side note I once saw some Ikea furniture in a Charity shop in Harrison Plaza in Malate, which was a surprise someone must have imported it, the asking price in the shop was silly so I would not have bought anything but I like their stuff it is good value lasts a long time and looks good, luckily they are opening in Manila next year I think, it will be interesting to see if they provide their traditional good value.

    There was a sign on an empty shop unit in, I believe, Greenhills which claimed that Bata would soon open there. That was in February 2016 and I have no idea if Bata really is there. Bata shoes are nice. And expensive!

    I thought so. But that store list does not include all Bata stores: no stores shown for Malta where there are three or more. And none for the UK?

    What is the problem in not using a container to ship everything you own in one go?

    I did this when moving from the USA to the UK and it was surprisingly cheap.
